Exploring Creativity: Year 7 Students Co-Designing a Creative Writing Adventure

Hello, dear readers!

It is time to dive into the vibrant world of our Year 7 students and their incredible journey through the realms of creative writing. This term has been nothing short of enchanting as our young minds have taken the reins to co-design their very own creative writing unit, led by Miss Growse. The outcome? A spectacular display of imagination, expression, and innovation that truly reflects the diverse talents of our students.

As Samira beautifully put it, "I like how we could use our own ideas and use our imagination because it shows people’s emotions and how different we are from each other. I also like how Miss Growse lets us have student voice and lets us have opinions." This sentiment echoed through the corridors as our budding writers found their voices and explored the magic of storytelling.

A Journey Through Creativity and Imagination

David, one of our remarkable Year 7 students, shared his thoughts, "This term in English, we have done a variety of interesting tasks with some fun sprinkled on top. Before every lesson, we write a short story to practice for the book that we are going to publish at the end of the term." These young authors-in-the-making have taken their craft to new heights, creating short stories that showcase their growth and passion.

One of the most captivating activities this term was the creation of stop-motion videos. "We have done stop-motion videos for our visualized stories. That was one of the most fun and enjoyable tasks this year," exclaimed David. These videos not only brought their stories to life but also allowed them to visualize their narratives in a unique and captivating way.

Reflections and Growth

Allirah shared her insights, "I think I did well in the creative writing piece because I really tried to make it good and in the end the writing pieces were good. I think I could've improved on the words I use in it like use more descriptive words but other than that it was really good." It's heartwarming to witness our students' dedication and enthusiasm for self-improvement.

Lucas S reflected on the joy of rediscovery, "I really like being given a worksheet to do because I can finish it quicker and better. I love the work we are doing in English because I love writing and drawing. I also love creating stories which I can call mine my own." This blend of nostalgia and creativity is truly the essence of the learning experience.

Empowerment through Student Voice

Elena expressed her appreciation, "I like how Miss Growse let us plan and create our own lessons as it becomes easier for us to learn and focus. Letting us have student voice in our lessons has made it easier for me to have fun whilst learning." Our students have embraced the opportunity to shape their learning, making it an engaging and enjoyable journey.

A Glimpse into the Journey

Tyson summarized the impact of student-driven learning, "I like how I have more of an opinion of what we can do and what we can write about. I like how we have more of a choice and from this, I feel like I have done more work from it."

And now, dear readers, we invite you to witness the incredible creativity of our Year 7 students firsthand. Be sure to check out the captivating video showcasing their stop-motion journey.
