Tech School Visit

Our Year 8 students recently visited the Ballarat Tech School, where they participated in three hands-on STEM activities throughout the day. Students were introduced to different technologies and STEM skills and were then asked to consider how these influence and impact the world they live in today.

"On the 20th of July, both Year 8 classes had the opportunity to go to the Ballarat Tech School. The day consisted of Virtual Reality (VR), robots and escape puzzles.

During the VR activity, we played VR games, including roller-coaster simulators, bow and arrow games and many more. We also had the opportunity to operate robots, programming them to pick-up and put down a plant in a different place. Some groups made it to the next stage, in which they were required to pick up the plant and carry it around the box, before placing it back down.

We played other VR games during our recess and lunch break, including race-car driving and flying a plane.

Finally, we got to try the escape puzzles. We had to find the correct pins to match four different locks. Three of the locks were attached to two toolboxes, while the fourth lock was hidden. In order to find the correct pin, we were given clues and a tablet. The rest we had to figure out on our own.

Thanks to Miss Blackburn for organising the excursion and Mr. Tatchell, Mr McClure, Issy and Mrs Murphy for attending with us."
