Literacy

In writing this week, students have continued to focus on their individual learning goals. Some children are practising writing the sounds they can hear, some are focused on using spaces between their words and others are concentrating on using full stops and capital letters correctly.

This week we also welcomed our families into the classroom to help us with Reader's Workshop and our Reading Program. The students were very focused on their reading and follow up activities. Thank you to all our helpers for your assistance - the children had a wonderful time and the guided small groups assist with delivering even more targeted learning for every student.

Maths

During our number topic this week, we looked at how far we can write our numbers. We then looked at patterns in number and place value to extend our knowledge.

After our work on patterns last week, we had a go at recording some patterns in our Workbooks. Students were encouraged to place a line where the pattern repeats.

We also revisited our discussions about time. The students used analogue clocks to practise making and reading different times.

 Inquiry

This week, we discussed why water is so important and ways we can avoid wasting it. Together we brainstormed our ideas of ways that we can use water responsibly and made a class big book titled, Saving Water

The highlight of our week was our excursion to Edendale Farm today. We were packed for poor weather but to our delight, we had a lovely, warm spring day. The students enjoyed a tour of the farm and met many of the animals. We did a lesson about recycling and how we can reduce the amount of rubbish we send to landfill. This was followed by a fun craft activity, where the children were able to create an animal of their choice from recyclable materials. We finished the day with a lesson about worms and composting, and even got to hold a worm if we wanted to.

Overall it was a fantastic day! Thank you to the staff and families that joined us today, we hope you had fun too.

Have a great weekend!
