Year 7 & 8 News

Camp
Our last camp preparations are well underway. We are looking forward to taking a large number of our Year 8 students to Karoonda Park in Gelantipy. Students will undertake a range of activities including horseback riding, whitewater rafting, ropes courses and team building. We ask that if any student attending the camp has any dietary requirements, please contact the school as soon as possible.
Camp is the first week of Term 4. Students are to bring their bags into the gym at the start of the day. Students have been given a packing list, and we have also put the packing list on the Year7/8 Students Teams page for their reference.
Please note, we recommend all students take a rapid antigen test before leaving for camp. Students will be provided with RAT tests prior to the holidays to take home. Whilst on camp, if students are showing any symptoms of illness, we will have extra rapid antigen tests and will facilitate any students who would like to self-test. If a student is unwell, or tests positive to Covid 19, we will contact the family and ask they be picked up from camp.
Attendance
As we head towards the last quarter of the year, it is important to continue tracking our goals of attendance. We know that attendance is one of the key factors to success at school. At Kurnai College we would like all students to aim for 95% attendance. This is so they can get the most out of their time at school. If you are having trouble with getting your son or daughter to school, please do not hesitate to contact me for support.
- Remember: 1 day a fortnight missed = 20 days a year = 4 weeks a year = Over 1.5 years of missed learning (P-12)
- 1 day a week missed = 40 days a year = 8 weeks a year = Over 2.5 years of missed learning (P-12)
- 2 days a week missed = 80 days a year = 16 weeks a year = Over 5 years of missed learning (P-12)
- 3 days a week = 120 days a year = 24 weeks a year = Nearly 8 years of missed learning (P-12)
Transition
As we look forward to 2023, I would like to take this opportunity to highlight our transition process for our soon-to-be newest students at Kurnai. At Morwell campus we will be inviting students that need a little extra help with transition into our learning community.
We also have our state-wide transition for all our 2023 Year 7 students on the 12th and the 13th of December, with our Parent Information Night held on the 13th December in our Drama Room.
If you or a family you know have any questions about 2023 please contact me.
