It is a great achievement for students to have reached the end of Term 3. This is the longest term without break and, in the longest time at school in two years, has certainly been a challenge for a number of students, staff and parents. We recognise the level of fatigue that everyone is feeling and look forward to a recharged and renewed effort in Term 4.
Term 4 continues to be busy at Morwell Campus. Our Year 8s head off on camp in week 1 and our Year 10s head off on camp in week 3. These are the last of a series of seven camps we’ve had on offer this year in order to make up for the experiences our students missed out on during the Covid remote learning period. It has been a difficult task to put all of these together and my thanks goes out to all of the staff who have given so much time away from their families and personal lives in order to make these important experiences possible for our young people.
I recently sat in on a meeting of our student leaders with our College Principal, Anthony Rodaughan. It was great to listen to these exceptional young leaders discuss their needs, fears and goals so openly. Student voice continues to be a priority for our campus and I look forward to working with student leaders this year and next, to action responses to some of the areas they have highlighted for improvement. It was interesting to hear that they were seeking more education for themselves and their peers in more broad areas of social/emotional growth to develop a greater understanding of the world around them. As a school, we owe it to our cliental to meet such requests and strive to do so.
It was fantastic this week to have been given the privilege of judging our Kurnai’s Got Talent. Congratulations to Ben Carrigy of Year 7 who outperformed skilled and seasoned artists at all year levels, including University Campus students, to take out first place with his illusions act. His relaxed and humorous demeanour and skilled illusionary talent was incredible to see. He has a great future ahead of him in performing!
I hope that you have all made an opportunity to catch up with teachers throughout our Parent Teacher Conversations over Thursday and Friday. These have been the first ones to be held face-to-face in over two years and are a great opportunity to come together to discuss the learning of our students. If you missed out on seeing any of your child’s teachers for any reason, I encourage you to make contact on Compass via email, or call the school, to find out more about how your child is travelling. Alongside the meetings, we also have our most recent round of Learning Behaviour Updates released recently. They are available on Compass to guide your conversations and highlight any areas of concern and improvement for your child. We have seen consistently excellent results in the Learning Behaviour Updates across the Campus – the best we have ever experienced.
Our College Leadership Team has been working hard to shape dates for Term 4. This is a busy term, with transition, reporting and many other requirements. Please keep a close eye on Compass for a number of student free days that will occur throughout the term for teacher professional learning. We will endeavour to ensure all information comes to you in a timely manner to allow you to plan.
I wish all of our Learning Community a safe and relaxing holiday break. Good luck if your team plays in the Grand Final and I look forward to seeing all of our students back on deck in two weeks for Term 4.
