Principal's Report

It’s been a strong start to learning this term. As I have been visiting classrooms the calm, purposeful way that our students have started the term has been notable. It was fantastic to see such an enthusiastic turnout at our Annual Athletics carnival, which was our first whole-school event for the year. Congratulations to YANGARDOOK house for a strong finish, taking out the cup this year! Particular credit goes to the following participants for breaking some long standing records: Illy S and Malama S in the Javelin;  Simione T 200m, Cooper J 100m; and our Pywheitjorrk team in the Staff relay. A huge thank you also to Sports Coordinator, Gerard Darcy for organising the day and ensuring the many different events ran like clockwork.

Class Reviews

Over the next few weeks our Class Reviews will start for Term 2. Class Reviews are an opportunity for teachers to meet with student representatives to give and receive feedback about the learning of their classes. Last term I was exceptionally proud of the way our students conducted themselves in our Class Reviews. It was exciting to see teachers and students working together to amplify student voice in their learning. This term every student will have the opportunity to share what teachers can “stop” “start” and “keep” doing to improve their teaching. An increased focus on student agency is an area of focus that came from our School Review last year. We are excited to work with students on this initiative that will continue to support their learning.

NAPLAN

Our Year 7 and Year 9 students have made us proud this week, completing their first NAPLAN tests since Grade 3 and Grade 5 respectively! This year Melton Secondary College moved to the online testing process. It was great to see our students’ expertise on their iPads shining through as they navigated the test in the new online format. Our NAPLAN results give us important information about what our young people know, and what they are ready to learn next. Teachers work carefully with each student’s NAPLAN data to plan effective learning for them. We look forward to sharing this year’s NAPLAN results with our community in the 2022 Annual Report. Families will receive individual reports that provide details for their student.

School Council AGM

The next meeting of School Council 6.00-6.30 pm Tuesday 24th May is the Annual General Meeting of School Council where the 2021 Annual Report will be presented. The AGM is an open meeting of the community and parents/carers, students and staff wishing to attend are asked to contact the General Office on 9743 3322 by Wednesday 18 May to register their attendance. Once tabled, the Annual Report will be published on the College website. The AGM will be followed by the May meeting of School Council.

Western Chances Scholarship

A huge congratulations to year 11 student Eisay Adhanom for being awarded a Western Chances Scholarship to help him achieve his ambitions through continued success in his studies. Eisay has shown leadership across a range of interests at school and in the community. His school studies reflect these interests and include PE and Outdoor Education as well as math and science. The scholarship will support Eisay to purchase equipment and materials to support these studies.

Go to the Careers Section for futher information about Eisay's award.

Rugging up for winter

MSC jacket
MSC jacket

A reminder that as the weather cools down it is as important as ever to be in our school uniform. Wearing our uniform shows that we belong to a team, just like our community sports teams. It shows that we have pride in our school and in learning.

There are a range of warm items for our students to wear, including our winter jacket and MSC scarf and beanie. Click on the MSC Jacket image for a link to the Buxwear website where you can see the full range of  uniform and on-line ordering for pick-up at the new Melton High Street outlet

Non-uniform items must not be worn to school. Our cold and windy Melton weather is not a reason to wear non-uniform items. If these are worn, they will be required to be removed. Please help us and your child to belong and be ready to learn by being in full school uniform every day.

Vaping

Parents/carers and students are reminded that vaping and smoking are banned from College grounds and within four meters of the College entrance.

The ban exists to protect children and young people from the dangers of second-hand smoke and vapour and ensures that children and young people can enter and leave these areas without being exposed to harmful second-hand smoke and vapour.

The College is in the process of having Vape Detectors installed in student toilets to ensure that these areas are also safe for students.

It is illegal to sell e-cigarettes or tobaco products to any person under the age of 18. Students in possession of items associated with vaping or smoking will have them confiscated and consequences applied consistent with the College Student Engagement and Wellbeing Policy.
