STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE COUNCIL (SRC) AT ST FIDELIS
JUNE 2022
Congratulations to our SRC Reps: They will be meeting with Ms. Sally this week.
Why have an SRC?
There are several reasons for having an SRC, and they all have to do with students’ participation in what happens within the school and its community. Firstly, better decisions are made within a school (and elsewhere) if everyone who is affected by those decisions is involved in making them in some way. Students know things that others (teachers, parents, administrators) often don’t – just as teachers and others know things that students may not. Having this knowledge available in the decision-making process will result in a wiser decision. And because students have been involved, it’s more likely that the actions based on the decisions will be more effectively implemented.
Why we believe we need an SRC at St Fidelis?
- So that students have a voice
- Students will be able to participate and learn about leadership skills
- It will help our school become safer and the students will be happier because they feel listened to
- Students feel heard.
The skills the SRC representatives at St Fidelis will learn:
- Responsibility and Trust: students will have responsibility for real issues
- Collaboration-students: will be part of the decision-making with the school leadership team
- Respect: Students will develop respect for all students in the school
- Caring: students begin to care for each other
- Rewarding: they feel heard
Our representatives were chosen because:
- They are passionate and want to be the spokespeople for their learning space
- They are a team player
- They have good communication skills
- They are organised and caring
- They are good at collaboration
