Week 7 Term 2

Dear Parents and Friends,

“They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak foreign languages

as the Spirit gave them the gift of speech.”  Acts 2:2

The celebration of Pentecost, the gift of the Holy Spirit, was celebrated yesterday in the Catholic Church. The narrative from the Acts of the Apostles tells us the Apostles were gathered in a room when they heard what sounded like a powerful wind and then there appeared what seemed like tongues of fire resting upon the gathered. The Apostles were filled with the Holy Spirit which enabled them to speak in foreign languages and gave them the power of speech. This narrative is full of imagery such as tongues of fire and speaking in multiple languages.

How do we engage with this text? When engaging with children are we presenting the story in a literal or symbolic way? The author of the text wants to convey a life changing experience. There is an invitation for us contemporary readers to reflect on the symbolic presentation of this story of faith and to consider its implications for us today in 2022. The celebration of Pentecost is often referred to as the birth of the Church. The Apostles are empowered to go and spread the news of Jesus Christ.

Come, Holy Spirit of Pentecost

Come, Holy Spirit of the Great South Land.

O God, bless and unite all your people in Australia and guide us on the pilgrim way.

Give us the grace to see your face in one another

and to recognise Jesus, our companion on the road.

Give us the courage to tell our stories and to speak boldly of your truth.

Give us ears to listen humbly to each other

and a discerning heart to hear what you are saying.

Lead your Church into a hope-filled future, that we may live the joy of the Gospel.

Through Jesus Christ our Lord, bread for the journey from age to age.

Amen.

Year Three Reconciliation

This Thursday Night our Year 3 students will receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation at St Fidelis Church commencing at 7:00 pm. Please keep these children and their families in our prayers.

The Resilience Project

Thank you to the 17 families that joined us for our online information session about the implementation of The Resilience Project at St Fidelis. Unfortunately, we had some technical issues in the evening which impacted the presentation. We will endeavour to reschedule this event onsite in the coming weeks.

School Improvements

A high fence and gate have been installed at the front entrance of the Senior Learning Area (SLA). The purpose of this improvement is to extend the outdoor learning area for the Year 5/6 students and teachers and for additional security for our students.

Bench seats have also been installed in the Benny Courts. The purpose of these seats is to provide an area for our inter-school visitors to sit and watch the games and extra seating for our students during break time.

Up and Coming School Improvements:

Over the next few weeks, we will be removing most of the white Interactive boards from the SLA and the one in the library. We are slowly replacing these with new mobile TV/Computer units.
