Welcome to all of our Alumni and new Alumni for 2022. The past two years have given us reason for pause and to consider the important aspects of education for the Killester students. Student voice in all things, including decisions surrounding the school uniform, buildings, new staff interviews, curriculum and pedagogy, are gaining momentum.

This year the partnership with the Springvale Hub/Town Hall has gained momentum due to the ‘loss’ of Kennedy Hall. The Opening Mass was held there and, for the first time, we walked all students across to the precinct. The venue is fantastic, with lots of space and a seated dedicated Year 12 mezzanine (they loved it). Following the mass we had our annual lunch on the oval, with the maintenance team cooking sausages and the canteen / Hospitality staff organising vegie burgers. All assemblies for 2022 will be held in the Town Hall as it becomes an extension of the school’s facilities, together with the sports and gardens precinct and library Hub.

We followed this event less than a week later with the Year 8 Wonder Alumni Morning Tea, which involved all Year 8s spending quality sit-down time with alumni members. It brought together current students, alumni members, Hospitality students as caterers and music students and staff.

The inaugural International Women’s Day Breakfast, with nearly one hundred and thirty people in attendance, and Brigid Arthur as our guest speaker, saw the partnership with the Greater Dandenong Council going from strength to strength. We also welcomed Wellsprings and the Dandenong Youth Services team to this event, as well as a contingent of Springvale and Dandenong Police officers. The team for this event included the Killester Marketing Team and Clara Yip/David Strahan and their teams at the Springvale Town Hall. Our MCs for the event were Mandy, Acacia and Sienna Quinn, who were fabulous in the role. Mandy and Acacia are both alumni members and Sienna is in Year 12, 2022. We hope to see alumni join us in 2023 for this fabulous morning.

The school tours have recommenced over twelve Mondays, with most days having upwards of thirty families each time. The Twilight Opening saw hundreds of people visiting and catching up on the lost opportunities to visit due to covid lockdowns. Welcoming prospective parents and new families to the College was a wonderful occasion. The Family Learning Centre has recommenced its English Language Classes , and a very successful Year 7 Community Conversation.

We look forward to seeing the completed new Kennedy Hall, which is bound to be as spectacular as the Tullow building. Our students and staff are happy to be back to some level of normality and it is wonderful to have visitors and guest speakers returning. Our thanks to all of the alumni members who have been actively involved in the College's events, with a reminder that we welcome contact from anyone who is willing to connect or re-connect with us regarding joining classroom and extra curricula activities.

With best wishes

Loreto
