Killester Reach Program

Killester Reach began in 2021 as a Government initiative designed to support students who have fallen behind and demonstrated significantly large gaps in their learning as a result of COVID-19’s interference to their education. Through the use of qualitative and quantitative data-collection, we were able to begin our first wave of tutoring and, thanks to our tutors, their diverse disciplines, and their incredible organisational skills, we were able to extend our resources to support a huge number of students across Years 7-12 at Killester College in Term 2 this year.

The dedicated tutors conduct their work using a hybrid teaching approach, clearly placing a spotlight on their flexibility. Through collaboration with nominating and classroom teachers, and student voice, tutors make the decision to assist their students either in class or one-on-one; choosing which method would provide the best result for the student they are working to support.

As of this year, the Tutor Program has branched out from solely supporting students who have been identified for extra assistance and has created ties with the VCAL team and the team of Learning Support Officers. This has maximised the effect of the Tutor Program as tutors can support students one-on-one and teachers in-class to ensure a widespread of assistance across the school by aiming to address the various disciplines and programs the school embodies and offers. So far, our team of tutors have promoted student confidence, agency and encouraged positive engagement with the learning process.

A massive thank-you to the tutors who have put a huge amount of effort into their roles and have demonstrated ongoing commitment and support to the teachers and students at Killester College.
