St Kevin's Day at SFS

On Friday we celebrated St Kevin's Day at St Francis de Sales. So why do we celebrate St Kevin's feast Day at our school. The children were able to answer this question with ease. We are part of St Kevin's Parish in Hampton Park. St Kevin's Primary School is our sister school.

St Kevin lived in Ireland, he was born in 498 and died in 618, giving him a respectable innings of 120 years. St Kevin lived as a hermit in a cave in a place called Glendalough. There was something about Kevin’s personality that attracted people and created community. Before long, his cave became the hub of a monastery. Many of the stories about St Kevin suggest that he had a deep relationship with the natural world. He was open to God and protective to those vulnerable as the story of St Kevin with his arms open and providing a place for a bird to nest reveals.

Today we were unable to meet with St Kevin's Primary school to ensure the safety of staff and students from the contagious virus sweeping through our suburbs. However we did sent gifts of cards with special messages to the children and treats for the staff. At St Francis de Sales we did some buddy activities and celebrate a lovely para-liturgy in our learning spaces. The juniors lead our afternoon assembly and we also had some fun activities to enjoy uring the day. It was a very happy feast day at SFS. We wish our parish a very Happy feast day as well. Please join in the lunch after Mass on Sunday.

The Resuscitate a Mate program is designed to introduce participants to emergency response management (DRSABCD). In the 1 hour interactive session, participants learn the steps to follow in an emergency situation and the skills to potentially save a life. This program is delivered by a trained Lifeguard. We would like to thank Ramzi for his presentation and providing this experience to our Grade 5/6 students. When asked to put up their hand if they learnt anything new in the session all the students unanimously put up their hands. Such invaluable information for our students.
