The Lion King Junior

DISNEY THE LION KING JUNIOR

Welcome from the Pridelands

It has been lovely to spend some time with our principal performers over the last couple of weeks - just running lines, talking about the physicality of their characters and starting to get the feel of the show.

Our wonderful sound and light crew dropped in on Wednesday and Friday and started to play with some DMX Controlled lights including a few moving lights - that we have purchased for the production!

They took to it all like ducks to water and in just a few weeks we will take possession of our MANTRA LITE lighting desk that we will hire from July until the end of the show to maximize the learning opportunities in this area.  I can’t wait for the children to learn all about it and teach ME how it all works  :P

We have gained two more headset mics for rehearsals (taking our total to 6) and 2 hand held mics.

This is so important to me for three reasons - 1 - it means that children are not trying to sing over amplified music.  2) Children get to hear their voices in the space and get used to that sound long before the show gets to production week and 3) The sound crew get to learn over a 12-16 week period how to work a sound desk - as opposed to be thrust in with only a few days.

As a drama teacher, I have often watched the growth of my acting students over a term, a year and/or years - but I have never been given the opportunity before to be a part of the growth and learning of children from a technical aspect of theatre;  and I am so looking forward to it.

Next week we will have a full read and sing through of the show.  This is an exciting time for all of us and it will be recorded and videoed for some members of our artistic team who cannot make it.  It is the first time that everyone gets to hear the entire show.  Principals will be able to use their scripts at this reading.

We will be doing Act 1 on Monday lunchtime and Act 2 on Tuesday lunchtime (given that Friday will be all messed up with end of term schedules).

Next term we will start to put the show on its feet (that means we will start to stage it).  We take possession of the set pieces on August 18th and from that day on the cast can and crew can really start to fine tune the show.

We have re-arranged what we will be doing during the two day holiday workshop.  In short, we will be doing our full costume parade on Friday morning - not Saturday.  All dates and times are still the same - however, if you wish to be (or are already involved) in the costume/wardrobe or make up side of the show - you will now be required on the Friday.

PRODUCTION FOLDERS

It is really important that everyone brings their production folder to every rehearsal.  Not only is it required for looking at your lines, but if any new sheets are handed out - they need to be put into the folder immediately so they don’t end up on the floor.

CEREAL BOXES REQUIRED (LAST BIG PUSH)

Jho and Lilli have made some awesome masks from your cereal boxes and are hoping to have the bulk of the masks made by the COSTUME PARADE in the holidays - so if you have any spare cereal boxes -we would really love them next week.

MAKE UP AND WARDROBE

If you know someone who would be keen to help out with FACE PAINTING for the production - please let us know.  People who are in the cast can help with this as well as wardrobe.  Any parent who would like to assist - please let us know by sending us an email to: pfshows@gmail.com
