Year 3MS News
As part of their Inquiry Unit, “Living and Nonliving Things”, the Year 3 students have been learning about the lifecycle of a seed and how plants can stay alive (soil, water, sunshine and care). This week we planted Grass Heads using a variety of materials and wrote a procedural text to match.
The students used gloves, masks and goggles to provide protection from the soil and got straight to work by compacting the soil over the grass seeds into the stocking. Once enough soil was placed into the stocking, it was tied up and flipped so that a nose could be tied off, googly eyes could be glued on and a pipe cleaner could be added to complete the look. These marvellous creations will sit on our classroom window sills this term. We'll track their progress each week by taking photos of the growing grass and taking observation notes. We are all very excited to see the results!
Year 4 Inquiry
This term, the Year 4 students will be investigating gravity and movement as part of their Inquiry unit, Forces. For their 'Tuning In' activity, students were asked to create a marble run using straws and sticky tape. They had to think about how they positioned the straws on the board and the gradient (slope) of the board. The aim of the activity was to design a marble run with the slowest time for the marble to reach the end of the course.
