CARNEGIE POPS, ROCKS AND DOO WOPS NEXT WEDNESDAY

All classes have been very busy preparing for this special event and the students are keen to share their skills on the night. The preparation over many weeks has seen fine qualities in our students shining through – teamwork and persistence, along with enhancing their performing arts skills. Thank you for your support in relation to the organisation of this special evening that I am sure will be a highlight of our school year. We would like to particularly acknowledge Suzy Bolger, our Arts teacher, for leading this event. As you know there is much work behind the scenes over many weeks to ensure all goes smoothly on this special evening.

FATHERING PROJECT LAUNCH

We had a great turn up for the launch of the Carnegie PS Fathering Project last Wednesday evening. The fathers and father figures heard about the success of this project in other schools. This session inspired a good number of fathers and father figures to join the Carnegie group. We look forward to seeing how this group develops. Watch this space!

ANOTHER SHINING EXAMPLE OF OUR CPS COMMMUNITY

Last Monday, our PFA, as part of the Biggest Morning Tea organised delicious cupcakes for our students to purchase with all monies raised being donated to the Cancer Council.

Hundreds of colourfully decorated cupcakes were generously baked by our families and these were thoroughly enjoyed by our students. A special thanks to Priyanka DCosta, Asher & Mikhail's mum, for leading the organisation of this event.

Most students remembered to bring a coin along for this but there were some who did not remember on the day. I remember packing a small change purse in my children’s school bag so they there was always a few dollars if needed for such school events. It was needed more than once during their primary school years.

SEMESTER REPORTS

End of semester reports will be visible to all parents on Compass next Thursday, 23rd June. Teachers have recently been conducting assessments and writing the reports. Students in years 3 to 6 are also writing a reflection on their learning that form part of their report. If you are unable to view the semester report, please contact your child’s teacher and they will be able to guide you. The reports remain on Compass whilst your child is enrolled at Carnegie PS. Please remember to download the reports to your devices before your child leaves Carnegie PS.

PLEASE BE RESPECTFUL -NO DOGS IN OUR SCHOOL GROUNDS

Can we please remind all families that dogs are not allowed in our school grounds at pick up and drop off. This has always been the case but has become of a concern more recently. We love our furry friends, but all dogs bought to school do need to be tied up on one of external fences if bought to school. Having to remind individuals is something we’d prefer not to do.

TRAFFIC AND PEDESTRIAN SAFETY

I have once again been approached by concerned parents in relation to parents driving safely at pick up and drop off times, children crossing roads safely and people parking illegally in Disabled Parking areas, over resident’s driveways etc. This issue has been raised on other occasions and I personally can’t change the behaviours of others, but I do strongly encourage adults and children alike to respect our neighbours and the road rules. Please make and encourage wise choices as we would not like to see any accidents occur that are avoidable. I encourage families with concerns to report these to the Glen Eira Council.

FIRST AID PROCEDURES AT SCHOOL

I remind parents that if children are very sick or more seriously injured and parents or their emergency contact person cannot be contacted by phone, we are obliged to ring an ambulance to take the child to the doctor or hospital. DET does not provide personal accident insurance for students. Parents and guardians are responsible for paying the costs of medical treatment for injured students including medical transport. Teachers cannot take children to the doctor or hospital in private cars. The cost of the ambulance will be the responsibility of the parents.

This can be very expensive unless parents have ambulance subscription. It is very important parents consider taking out ambulance cover. Health Care Card holders receive free ambulance service (children’s names must be on the Health Care Card).

Please ensure your child’s emergency contacts up to date. If you need to make changes to your emergency contacts, please contact the admin team in our office.

LAST DAY OF TERM

The last day of term 2 is next Friday 24th June. The children finish school at 2.30pm; they will be dismissed from their classrooms. I wish everyone a very safe and happy holiday and look forward to seeing all again on Monday 11th July when we commence another great term. I hope you can take the opportunity to rest a little and enjoy a change of pace, on these cooler days, with family and friends.

Below is an A-Z of fun things you can do over the holidays.
