Year 8 Camp

by Lillian Davis

Last week the year 8s went on a camp to Eildon. It was very cold and quite wet and muddy but, it was ok apart from that. On day one, after meeting our instructor Andy, setting up our tents and putting our things in our tents, groups one and two went canoeing. We got to go canoeing at Eildon dam but, because of how late in the afternoon it was, we got the wind and the waves. It was quite fun although I got really wet but the rain gear that Bindaree provided had kept me mostly dry underneath.

On Tuesday we had to wake up around 7 because we had to have breakfast and then go on a 3km hike. The hike was tiring but it was pretty fun either way. On Tuesday night I was hanging out near the campfire with Miss Merlino and Miss Dingfelder until around 10pm. On Wednesday we had to do a 9km hike to get to somewhere that was easier for the buses to pick us up. The 9km hike was really tiring and we got our feet really wet because there were two water crossings and we also got pretty warm because we were carrying decent sized hiking packs on our backs and we were walking a lot. Wednesday was lots of fun and I slept really well on Wednesday night.

On Thursday we had to do initiatives which was just team building and white water rafting to our next campsite. Initiatives was fun and I enjoyed working as a team with my group. The rafting was lots of fun and I really enjoyed rafting to the next campsite. It was very calm and I loved just rafting on the river. Thursday was very fun and I enjoyed both team building and rafting.

Friday was the last day and we went rafting yet again. It was loads of fun to raft with my friends for a little longer. There were two rapids which were fast moving water and lots of rocks so they were fun to go through. My favourite activity was the rafting because it was so relaxing and very calming. All together I really loved this camp and it was really enjoyable.
