Junior School Performing Arts Evening

Thursday 2nd June 2022

Our evening began as parents and friends warmed up with a delicious curry prepared by our junior twig team, as junior band played a wintery piece called ‘Penguin Promenade’. Soon after, everyone was dancing in their seats when the dance ensembles joined together to perform ‘You’re never fully dressed without a smile’. Alexandra Whitehead’s performance of Miss Trunchbull from Matilda by Roald Dahl had everyone entertained. Maybe she’ll be an actress one day!

There was magic in the air as the Junior String Orchestra played a piece called ‘The Enchanted Wizard’ followed by Kindergarten who put a smile on everyone’s faces with their wonderful singing and moving. Their wonderful masks created by the Kindergarten teaching team brightened up the stage and certainly helped our students get into character!

Next, it was the first choral group of the evening and Koristers certainly set the standard high, performing an enchanting piece by Australian composer, Paul Jarman, called ‘Ancient City’. 1-2 Choir took to the stage, with year 2 students Kaley and Grace taking a solo in ‘God bless the moon’ after which, they all bounced into action with a song about an ‘Unsociable Wallaby’.  3-4 Choir painted a vivid picture in our heads as they sung about fireflies flying through the night and 5-6 Choir closed our concert with an energetic performance of “Enjoy the Storm”.

Our individual musicians were also on show as the talented Junior Chamber ensemble with Ella, Zaro, Andy, Cassie and Mrs. Sinclair performed a delightful piece called ‘The Explorers’. We also had a solo performance by our Head Girl Prefect, Georgie Simpson, as her hands leaped across the piano with a flawless performance of Tambo Tango.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening from start to finish. We would like to thank all the ensemble directors and tutors for their assistance in preparing students for the concert, Mr Moxey for his incredible piano skills in accompanying all our choirs and Mrs Sinclair for her dedication in bringing the evening together. We are very proud of the standard of performing arts in the Junior School and were pleased that we got to share this evening with our wider school community.

Kindy Rhythm Sticks

Our Kindergarten classes have been working hard on creating and saying rhythms using the sounds ‘ta’, ‘ti-ti’ and ‘za’ with paddle pop sticks. Kindergarten Caterpillar create a rhythm train with their patterns!
