English
Reading and Viewing
Students will be exploring a series of digital texts that will integrate our religion and inquiry topics. The texts take students on a journey out of their own world and into the intriguing world of human diversity. They will read about people with different cultural, racial and belief systems and engage in activities to enrich and relate this content understanding to themselves and the human dignity of others. Guided reading sessions will see students explore a novel and will revise techniques of comprehension to further expand their knowledge of the text.
Writing
The focal point in writing will be to entertain. The students will be writing narratives for an audience, This will include opportunities to try different planning methods and use a range of language features while following this writing structure. On completion of this, students will also be writing to persuade in the form of advertisements. Students will be exposed to persuasive topics related to consumerism through this mode.
Speaking and Listening
To continue to support students in developing their capacity to speak confidently and with expression about an increasing range of topics they will be creating, producing and recording their own advertisements related to ethical consumerism.
Maths
Number and Algebra
This term students will develop an understanding of Fractions and Decimals exploring the relationship between these and whole numbers. Students will also continue their understanding of the four operations. Students will expand their problem solving skills though worded and multi step problems.
Measurement and Geometry
Location & Transformation
Students will work on time tables and map reading in preparation for camp.
Tessellation & Symmetry
Students will work on developing interesting patterns to create a mathematical art piece.
Area, Perimeter & Volume
Students will be involved in a variety of lessons that will aid their understanding of the mathematical concepts of perimeter, area and volume.
Statistics and Probability
This area of mathematics provides an opportunity to describe, interpret and collate and create different data sets in context and in digital media and through Inquiry. Students will also be encouraged to transfer relevant factual content to use in their writing.
Inquiry and Religion
Religion
This term students will explore the Church’s understanding of human dignity in relation to spiritual, social, economical, ecological and physical well-being. As well as reflect on ways to build just and compassionate relationships.
Inquiry
Our unit this term is about the history of migration and settlement of Australia since the Federation incorporating the concept of social justice. Students will explore this concept through the principles of economic justice, dignity for all. This will include exposure to information about migration, refugees and ethical consumerism.
Social & Emotional Wellbeing
This term students will be focusing on their own identities and wellbeing. Students will be shown a range of activities to support their own personal wellbeing. There will be dedicated timeslots to wellbeing throughout the school week, for students to choose their own practice based on their own needs. Students will also participate in Yarn Circles reflecting on their own personal strengths and abilities. Students will continue to develop their understanding of eSafety by completing several modules on the topic.
