Recently we have begun to look at Spoken Word Poetry and focussed on elements that have impact, including; rhythm, rhyme, beat, alliteration, onomatopoeia, personification, similies and metaphors. We also looked at forms of poetry including limericks - and we did an amazing job. Here are some great examples:
We have also begun to look at writing goals by self-assessing our writing to identify things that we do well, and the things we need to work on, along with writing workshops to support one another with peer feedback.
Our focus these last few weeks has been on Multiplication, particularly looking at arrays (or rows and columns) to represent large groups. Within these arrays students have begun to recognise smaller manageable groups (partial products) that help make these group sizes easier to count. It's great to see that there is always more than one way to solve a problem!
Recently we became aware of the challenging circumstances that St Joseph's Primary School in Woodburn (Far North New South Wales) have had to deal with following the devastating floods earlier this year. As a consequence, the students have chosen to hold a fundraiser to collect money to help the rebuilding program and to contribute as part of the Mornington Peninsula cluster of Catholic Schools.
In addition, students have begun to research Non-Government Aid organisations that support communities in need, for which they will share a presentation.
Hayden from Little Devils continues to introduce a variety of Circus skills as we work towards our end of term concert. It is fantastic to see the persistence children are showing in trying to master a new skill and their resilience when it's not perfect on the first try!
At last, after 2 years of interruptions, our Grade 5 and 6 students will be able to attend a school camp. This year we are heading to South Gippsland to Camp Rumbug. This week, important documents were sent home regarding medical/emergency and dietary needs. Please see that these are completed as soon as possible and returned to school. We are looking forward to a fun few days and a well-earned change to the normal school routine.
