GRANDPARENTS DAY

MUSIC WITH SENIORS

The Seniors are currently exploring the realms of Production Script Writing and organisation!

The students are preparing for the 2023 Productions by being given the opportunity to write their own scripts. Not only are they able to write their own scripts, they are also given the opportunity to create their own tickets, advertisements, choose backdrops and costumes etc. The students are very excited by the opportunity and have completely immersed themselves in the tasks.

Students have even asked to come to the Music Room at lunch time to complete the task. Rachel and I will create a script based on what we read from what the students produce. Some of the scripts have been exceptional and it has been very exciting to see the creativity students possess.

MUSIC WITH JUNIORS

Juniors have been exploring song writing, and have become lyricists. Students have changed the lyrics of familiar songs and changed them into their own. Have a listen to John and Kristian’s amazing composition attached. What an absolute joy it is to see our Juniors shine and get excited for their creations!!!

DISTRICT ATHLETICS

During Week 7 of Term 3 some of our Senior Students will be involved in District Athletics where we compete against other schools in our district.

Due to student absences we have a few more events to trial next Tuesday. However this will be the last day for tryouts and if students are absent we will need to continue with the tryouts as the athletics team needs to be finalised. Students are able to enter 2 individual events and a relay. Once we have finished trialling the events next Tuesday, an Operoo note will be put out to parents with more details.

SWIMMING

THANK YOU TO ALL PARENTS WHO HAVE COMPLETED THE OPEROO FORM AND RETURNED THE COMPLETED SWIMMING ABILITY FORM. BOTH ARE DUE NEXT FRIDAY AUGUST 12TH.

As parents are aware, after a break of two years, much needed swimming lessons will again take place in Term 4. Swimming is an essential part of the Physical Education Curriculum and we are obliged to provide swimming lessons for students. As such, it is expected that all students attend the swimming lessons. Exemptions will only be accepted with a medical certificate provided from your doctor.

Students have brought home either a General Swimming Ability form or a Squad Swimming Ability form. We ask that parents complete these forms and return to the Home Group teacher as soon as possible. The pool have requested for these forms to be filled in due to the large gap in time since the students’ last swimming lessons. They will also be assessed during their first swimming lesson in Week 1 of Term 4.

We ask parents to please give permission via Operoo, ensuring student profiles are up to date. We would also like parent assistance, especially with the Juniors changing after their lesson. Details are available via Operoo and parents can offer their assistance there also. Remember to assist you must have a current Working With Children Check and it must be registered with the School Office.

The Victorian State Government in conjunction with Lifesaving Victoria have published some material explaining the importance of school swimming lessons. I have included the links to this material for your reference.

In Term 3, the children have continued to learn about the Zones of Regulation framework. Our focus for this term is on expected and unexpected behaviours and understanding that when we are in the red zone or yellow zone, our behaviour impacts on other people and what they think and feel. The children understand that there are always consequences for our actions not just ourselves but for others.

In Term 3, we are also learning about Emotional literacy. This is being aware of how we feel and being able to read the emotions of others. Part of developing emotional literacy is being able to identify our personal strengths and the strengths of others.

The senior students were asked to identify what their personal strengths were and make a list of their top 5 character strengths. The children understand that when we get upset or go through difficult times, our character strengths are what help us through. The children then had to identify a time that they were able to use a particular character strength to help them in that situation.

Here is some of the children’s work.

The Junior students played a game called “Mind the Baby Relay” where they had to work with a partner, by linking arms, and pass a baby doll to the next pair as quickly and safely as they could.

Whilst having fun playing this game, the children learnt:

In real life it hard sometimes to look after children.

Our parents are there to help us.

When adults are in a hurry, or are busy with other things, it can be harder to ask for help. But it is still important to do this. It is especially important to find and tell a caring adult if a child or an adult is hurting someone else.

We also discussed gender stereotypes and that both Mums and Dads can look after the baby.
