David's Message

Dear Sunny Heights Community,

Welcome back to Term 3, and what promises to be a really enjoyable time. I hope you have all spent a lovely holiday time with your families. I was able to spend some quality time with my family and enjoyed all that our local area has to offer. The mix of cooler days and nights with bright sunshine is always a great reminder that spring is just around the corner...

We have lots of exciting events coming up, including Science Week, Book Week, our Fathers and Special Persons Day, the Sunny Heights Talent Show and of course, our Spanish Fiesta. You will also be able to connect with your child's teacher on Wednesday 27th July, where we will have the Younger Sun Bookstore here for you to once again purchase a book for the school library if you wish. We welcome a new member of staff to our team this term, Sophie Lewis. Sophie joins us from Westgarth Primary School and is a perfect match for our love of curious learning, building deep connections and leaning into courage.

There are lots of cases of illness going around at the moment. As well as COVID and the flu, there have been large numbers of students who have had a stomach bug. We have been speaking to students about the importance of washing hands regularly and keeping ourselves safe through hygienic practices. This is the perfect time to have a conversation with your child about this now, especially if they are in the lower year levels of school.

Finally, we have had a few delays to some of the construction works planned for the school. The shade sails are waiting on the steel to be cut, and the Inclusive School Play-space is also awaiting on the fabrication of equipment. Unfortunately these challenges seem to be impacting a number of services in Victoria due to both materials and staffing challenges. The play space should still be completed by the end of term 4, ready for an official opening in late November.

Best wishes,

David and the Sunny Heights Team
