New Learning Center
It is great to be fully moved into our new learning center. Students and teachers are loving their new classrooms and outdoor spaces.
All demountable buildings have now been removed and the last few finishing touches are being completed, including the carpark on Townson Avenue.
Weather permitting, the builders should be offsite in about 4 weeks.
Year 5 Camp
Our Year 5 students attended school camp at Tamborine Mountain. A great time was had by all and the camp was very successful.
By all reports from the camp, our students were extremely well-behaved and were excellent representatives of our school.
A huge thank-you to our staff who took a week away from their families and loved ones to offer our students this opportunity.
Interschool Sport
Interschool sport has started again for Term 3. It is great to see our students not only being competitive but displaying outstanding sportsmanship while representing our school. I was able to watch our netball team last week and they played exceptionally well.
Thanks to the staff (and parent helpers) who give up their time training our teams.
NAIDOC Week
National NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year (Sunday to Sunday), to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth. At Palm Beach SS we celebrated NAIDOC in week 2 with various activities across our school. A big thank you to Mr Hitchins for his ongoing work as our school’s Indigenous Champion.
Prep Interviews/Enrolments
Mrs Woodley has been busy this term conducting Prep enrolment interviews for 2023. These have been going well and it is great to see the excited kids getting ready for Prep next year.
We currently have 90 preps enrolled for 2023.
School Review
We are very excited to have our school review from the 16 – 18 August (week 6). The review is a great process to find the things that are working well in our school and guide the strategic planning for our school for the next four years by identifying some areas to improve.
The review will be conducted by three reviewers; one internal reviewer (Panel Chair from EIB), a peer reviewer (another principal) and an external reviewer (from outside the Dept. usually a retired principal). The review will be conducted across the three days and will involve conversations with staff, students, parents, external partners and community members.
During the review, reviewers will speak with parents around the school about things that are working well and areas that may need improvement.
Performing Arts
Our Senior and Junior Bands performed well this week for parents and Year 3 students. This was a great way to showcase our instrumental program and recruit students who are interested in playing an instrument in Year 4. Thank you to our Instrumental teacher Miss Kesting.
Our band, string ensembles and choirs are competing at Gold Coast Eisteddfod over the coming weeks.
Strings (GLOW Church):
