Principals Message
Dear parents and carers,
The next two weeks will mark one of the most important times of our school year. Over the next two weeks the students of St Xavier’s will be talking to you about their learning. They, along with their teachers, have selected certain pieces of work to explain to you. The children have been involved in conversation with their teachers so they understand the process of the conference. They have also been practising what it is they will talk about.
The children will talk about their understanding and how they receive help in the classroom. They will also talk about their learning goals and what they need to do to continue growing. In all cases the teacher will be there to prompt and help the child stay focussed. As parents your comments and questions should be directed to your child.
When we conducted student-led conferences in 2020 the feedback from all stakeholders proved that this method of children facilitating a discussion on their own learning is extremely valuable on many levels. There was some very insightful feedback from parents, some emotional, some surprised, some impressed and all very grateful for the experience. Of the whole school only around twenty children did not get to conduct a conference. I am hopeful this year will be even better.
I urge you to book a time over the next two weeks to share this experience with your children. We will follow up all parents who do not book a time to help arrange something more suitable. This is a wonderful opportunity to be with your children and listen to them speak about their learning. I hope to see many of you over the next two weeks and say hello.
I am currently at home with covid after just getting over the flu! I know many families are battling sickness as well and it is tough going for many. Covid and the flu have hit our staff quite hard and we thankfully have been able to continue normal teaching and learning with early morning shuffling of staff and duties. Our staff are very flexible and happy with any changes as they just want the best for our students.

Student-Led Conferences Booking Instructions
Instructions for booking your Student-Led Conference:
Conference Bookings on the Compass App (phones)
In order to book in with the teachers at your students' school for Conferences using the Compass app you will first need to login using your parent login credentials.
From the homepage click the hamburger menu button at the bottom right (three horizontal bars). A new page opens, select 'Conferences'.
This will take you to the main Conferences screen, where you can see all Conference cycles that the school has made available to parents and that one of your students is associated with. To start the booking process click on the conference cycle you'd like to book for.
Once you've selected a cycle you will first be shown a popup which contains information from the school about the conference cycle. Read the message and click 'Okay' at the bottom to continue. If you have multiple students who have been included in the conference cycle you will need to select which student to book for first. Select one of your students to proceed with booking. If you have only one student involved in the conference cycle you will not see this screen.
Conference Bookings on your Desktop (computer)
If you are accessing your Compass Account on a computer you will have a notification on your Compass dashboard advising you that you have a conference cycle open to make bookings for.
