WHAT'S HAPPENING IN THE LEARNING CENTRE?

It was certainly quiet around the Learning Centre without the Year 6s last week. Monday they were super excited to talk about their camp experiences and came back happy and bubbly. We are very happy that they got to have the camp experience this year after the last 2 years of disruptions.

We are busily learning about and immersing ourselves in economics this term, with students “buying” shares and being paid weekly allowances. Much discussion has been had about savings, tax, superannuation, budgets and the list goes on. The students have been super keen to learn about saving and we hope they have come home and had some great discussions with you about the topic.

GRADE 6 CAMP

The Year 6 students had an amazing time on their camp to Coonawarra Farm Resort. We were incredibly lucky with the weather and even had some days with blue skies. The students participated in a range of activities ranging from horse riding to the giant swing. It was wonderful to see the children having a go at all the activities and push themselves out of their comfort zone. Our motto for the week was “No Regrets” and everyone displayed this whilst at camp. The Year 6 teachers would especially like to thank Mrs Coghlan, Mrs Coward, Mr Borg, Mr Boromeo, Mr Ford, Mr Simpson and Mr White for coming on camp for the week with us.

SUMMER SPORT

The students have chosen their Summer Interschool Sport and have begun practice sessions. We are currently holding trials and the students are aware that they may not be able to play their first choice sport. We will have the same format as last term where we go to play our sports over 2 different days and this will be happening in the final weeks of the term. It has been great to see some students choosing something completely foreign to them and enjoying it. Forms and payments will be via QKR in coming weeks. We ask you to be prompt with filling the permission forms in and making the payments to allow us to be well prepared prior to the date.

BOOK WEEK

Book Week is coming up in Week 7. We love to see the students dressed up in costumes relating to books they have read. The theme this year Dreaming with Your Eyes Open, however the dress ups do not have to relate to this.

ICAS

The ICAS competitions begin next week, starting with Writing. We have approximately 65 Grade 5 and 6 students, as this year it is a user pay system. Good luck to all who have registered.

TRANSITION TO SECONDARY SCHOOL

Grade 6s must return their High School placement forms by the 10th August please. This is for Government Schools ONLY.

SCIENCE

As part of our Science unit on Light and Shadows this term, we are asking students to bring in a torch and a small handheld mirror (like a make up mirror). Students will work in groups to complete tasks with this equipment.

CODING

Our students have had an amazing time in recent weeks at working together to program robots to follow paths and complete tasks. The photos below show Grade 5 students putting their problem solving skills to the test.
