Term 3 Week 5

Book Week and Book Parade

It is that time of year again that we celebrate Book Week.  Book Week is August 22nd to August 26th. The theme for this year is Dreaming with Eyes Open.  Our Book Fair will begin next week on Wednesday 17th where students will have a chance to browse the books and create a wish list for parents to consider.  There will also be opportunities for parents to visit and make purchases after school on Wednesday and Thursday.  We also have our exciting Book Week poster competition for Year 5/6s and a lucky draw for someone to take home a prize from the Book Fair.

We have illustrator Michael Camilleri, visiting on Wednesday 24 August. Michael won a 2015 Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Book of the Year Award in the Crichton Award for New Illustrators category with his title One Minute’s Silence.

To finish our Book Week Celebrations we will have the ever popular Book Parade at 9am August 26th, so encourage your children to enter into the spirit of occasion by dressing as their favourite book character.  It promises to be a lot of fun.  Please read the Book Week section of this newsletter for further information.

100 Days of Prep!

We were delighted to celebrate 100 Days of Prep last Tuesday. What a celebration it was for our Foundation students.  There were plenty of activities, great costumes and to finish the day an assembly celebration that parents, carers and grandparents attended to hear the words of wisdom from our youngest students as they were each interviewed by their Year 6 buddy!  Well done to Barbara Cumming and Shellie Drysdale for their coordination and creativity to make the day such a success.

District Athletics

Well done to all the athletes that represented OLHC at last week’s athletic carnival.  Please read their accounts of the day on the District Athletics page.  Well done all!

Garden Club

We are excited to be running Garden Club again this term.  Please read the section in this edition of the newsletter about how you and your child can be involved.

Welcome back Mark!

Mark Pinkerton has returned from his travels around Queensland. He made the return with a tan after spending time in the sun, and relaxing under the palm trees. We are very happy to see him around the school again.

Kind Regards,

Patrick
