Welcome Back
Welcome back from hopefully a time of relaxation and recharging for your child for the Term 3 learning program. As you will see from the upcoming events on the previous page, it is another busy term.
Public Schools are Great
For nearly 150 years, public schools and preschool centres in South Australia have served important public purposes and they continue to do so.
They enrich the lives of children and young people by helping them to reach their potential, contribute to the economy through work and play an active role in civic life. Underpinning these purposes are 6 important characteristics and values that provide public education with its distinctive tone and quality.
Equity
All children can access a quality education in school.
Diversity
Public schools are rich in social and cultural diversity building a united society.
Democracy
Public schools give students and parents a voice that is heard and respected.
Quality
Public schools give children the opportunity to reach their full potential.
Collaboration
Public schools work together, sharing knowledge and ideas so they continue to grow and improve.
Community
Public schools are central to communities, connecting people of all ages.
LNPS is a proud public school which has it's own unique qualities. These 6 characteristics underpin our exceptional school and foster the the high quality learning opportunities we provide our students.

Social Work Field Education Placements
During the school holidays LNPS formed a partnership with Flinders University around hosting social work students for field education placements. The leadership team saw this as an amazing opportunity to provide additional support to our students and staff around some of the school's wellbeing for learning priorities, as well as learning and wellbeing support to our students.
Social Work students placed in school settings have the opportunity to work with individuals and with groups but also to support schools to further implement and embed a whole range of wellbeing initiatives aimed at building community capacity and further developing a strong school culture that values all its members.
Two social work students placed at LNPS have commenced their field education placement. Tara and Iris are both studying their Masters in Social Work, and have already started establishing relationships with our staff and students. They will be working with staff and students, supporting our school to further embed programs and initiatives by providing individualised as well as group based support for some of our students.
This support will range from:
- play at lunchtime programs
- classroom support during Health / CPC topics
- planning and coordinating “special days”
- plan targeted intervention for ‘focus students’
- mentoring
- collecting wellbeing data
Promoting and supporting positive mental health, wellbeing and resilience are key themes in all school contexts and underpin learning engagement and learner success.
"I am an International student studying Master of Social Work at Flinders University. I My bachelor degree is in Music. I like listening and helping others, hence why I decide to study social work.
As a social worker, I aim to embed the meaning, role and duty of social workers at all times. This entails promoting social change, helping solve relationships and empowering people to enhance well-being. Every child deserves an enjoyable and safe schooling experience, so it is important to develop students’ emotional and social skills. School education is about wellbeing and learning. While at LNPS I aim to support students and help them manage difficult situations and changes that they may encounter in life. I further aim to implement the theory of empowerment in practise in order to improve student resilience."
Iris
"My name is Tara and I am studying Master of Social Work at Flinders University. I have been living in Adelaide for 5 years. In the past I have worked as an interpreter in human service organisations and in schools with migrant families. I am currently doing my first placement in Lockley North Primary School. My main objective is building relationship with students and engaging with them. I aim to develop strong relationships with our school community and implement programs and interventions to help support the school's wellbeing initiatives."
Tara
Tara and Iris will be conducting their placement for the remainder of the year at LNPS. They will be working with staff and students 4-5 days a week. If you see Tara or iris in the school please say hello!
