Book Week Activity Day Report

Last Friday the Primary Section held their Book Week Activity Day.  It began in the Gym with a parade of all the students and staff dressed in book characters.  Well done to the students for their efforts.  Thank you to the families who were able to attend.   The parade was colourful and the students enjoyed a very successful day.

Year 5-6 Lake Cullulleraine Camp

The Year 5-6 camp dates have been changed to 13th-15th November.  An Expression of Interest form has been sent home to families.  Please check that your child's note has been returned.  A deposit of $50 is required to be paid before the end of this term, 20th September to secure a place on the camp for your child.

'Safer Student Travel’ Presentation Report 

Last week the Year 4-6 students took part in a ‘Safer Student Travel’ presentation by Dr Michael Kennedy.  Showing our students how to confidently keep themselves and others around them safe when traveling to and from school.  As many of our students have younger siblings, it is hopeful that this information will benefit those younger students at Merbein P-10 College as well. The focus was on their responsibility as shared road users to use safety methods on and around the road.

Year 2-3 'Save The Date'

Our Inquiry Unit theme 'Extraordinary Explorers' will finish on the last Tuesday of this term September 17th, with a massive Extraordinary Explorers Gala in our Learning Space.  All families are invited to come along to see what we have learnt about explorers who have made an impact on Australia’s development.  Pop in anytime between  11.30–1.00pm.  An invitation will be sent home with further details.  The students are enjoying working on their presentations.  We hope you can make it.

Year 2 Sleepover

The Year 2 Excursion/Sleepover will be held on 25th October.  Details will be sent home early next term.

Year 2-3 Chaffey Trail Excursion Report

As part of their Inquiry Unit, the Year 2-3 students visited a few of the locations on the Chaffey Trail. The students were fascinated with the Rio Vista and the Mildura Homestead as they learned more about the Chaffey Brothers and early settlement in Mildura. They were also able to the view the wonderful art works in the gallery and the sculpture park. Thank you to all of the friendly staff at the Mildura Arts Centre for helping our students expand their knowledge.

The Year Prep-1 students have been busy creating their Mildura Show entries.  Students used their imagination to decorate a peg or a jar.  If you are going to the Mildura Show this year make sure you go check out the student art display section where our students' work will be showcased.

As part of the Year P-1 'Healthy Choices' Inquiry Unit the students visited Ritchies Supermarket to look at all the different fruit, vegetables and grains. They were looking at healthy food and healthy choices. The students also ate a rainbow made of healthy food today.

Plastic Lid Collection

Did you know that plastic lids from drink bottles – milk, soft drink, water, etc.  can be recycled to make prosthetic hands?  Jurell in Prep is hoping to receive a prosthetic hand very soon.  He would love to send lots of lids to the company to make more for other children.  Can you please send clean plastic lids to school?  There is a collection box in the office of the Green Learning Centre.  Thanks

Green Building Awards

Reminder that  students in Years Prep-3 receive awards at a weekly assembly every Friday at 2.50pm.  Families are welcome to attend these assemblies held in the Green Building. 

Merbein Community Bank School Student Banking Program

If you wish your child to participate in this program, please send your child’s bankbook along to the Green Building Office every Thursday morning. The Bank will collect and process your child’s banking and then drop the bank book back to school before the end of the school day.

Primary Uniform Jacket

Primary students are able to purchase a polar fleece lined Jacket with a water repellent microfibre outer shell.  It has elastic cuffs and an internal zip pocket.  It is available in size 4 – 16 and has the school logo embroidered on it. Cost is $40.00 per jacket.
