Year 3/4–Celebrating Learning

Grade 3/4 National Gallery of Victoria

Reconciliation Week Excursion

Our 3/4 students were lucky enough to be invited to the NGV Ian Potter Centre to be a part of the Reconciliation Week activities. Students watched two Indigenous women perform cultural dances. The women even explained what each dance move represented and taught the students how to do the dances. Turns out we’ve got some great movers and groovers in the 3/4 cohort!

Students explored From Bark to Neon: Indigenous Art exhibition from the NGV Collection which celebrates Indigenous art in Australia. Judith Ryan, the curator of the exhibition walked us through the artworks and discussed the purpose and meaning behind the art pieces. Students also had a staff member from the NGV tour the students through the 19th and 20th Century Galleries.

Last but not least, the 3/4 students finished the day off having a 10 minute disco in one of the art spaces in the NGV building to burn off all of that excess energy from being such great listeners and learners for the day.
