A message from Leon

Thank you to everyone for your positive feedback of our first newsletter.   Please continue to let us know what you appreciate or what you would like to see included- particularly around celebrating student learning.

City of Darebin Parking Strategy.

A number of Principals have been working with the City of Darebin around the proposed Car Parking Strategy that is being discussed.  I have attended a number of meetings regarding the new strategy and the impact it will have at our school.

I am pleased to announce that Darebin Council voted this week not to continue with the Strategy so current arrangements will remain in place for the moment.

2020 Enrolments

Our school is growing and we are running out of physical space.  We have started to implement a stricter enrolment process.   In 2020 we will only have a limited number of enrolments across the school particularly in Prep.

I would strongly encourage parents to complete an enrolment form and hand it into the office by August 1st to assist with our planning.  Current students will have a place for 2020.

Department of Education Policy requires us to offer a place to families where we are the closest school to their home (according to findmyschool.com.au).  For new students, we will take into account siblings.  Once that is established, we can then offer places for families outside of the zone.  These rules will apply for both Steiner and Mainstream students.

If you have any questions about enrolment, please make a time to speak to me or the office staff.

Curriculum Day

Last Tuesday we had our Curriculum Day.  This was a significant day in the future direction of our school as we discussed the new strategy for teaching writing.  Staff became familiar with the Teaching Instructional Model and will begin to implement this in their classrooms.  Our Learning Specialists Tania Patten and Kate Cooney did a fantastic job of leading the staff through this day and will continue to follow up with staff for the remainder of this year.

In our Strategic Plan it was a focus to have a consistent approach to Teaching and Learning and  this year our focus is on improving writing.

Student Led Conferences and Semester One Reports

Student Led Conferences will be held on Tuesday 25th June. These conversations will be students leading their parents/carers to share their learning and what they have achieved this Semester.  This is an adjusted school day to allow time for teachers and students to present, and for parents/carers to be a part of the conversation. If you have any questions regarding student progress that you wish to discuss with your teacher, please feel free to make another time with your teacher.

Teachers are just finalising Semester One reports which will be released by the end of the day on Thursday 26th June 2019 on Compass in the Reports tab.

New Works over the holidays

Over the next school holidays, works will commence to landscape the area under and around our new Shadesail near the Bubajen.  The works will take approximately 4 weeks to complete and there will be some disruption to our school early next term.

This is all part of the Masterplanning and redevelopment of the buildings and grounds of our school.

End of Term

The last day for Term 2 will be on Friday June 28th.  We finish school at 2:30pm.

Day 1 of Term 3 is Monday July 15th starting 9am

I would like to thank all of you for your support throughout the first half of this year.  Please take care of yourself and your families during these dark, cold, winter months.  I hope you have a great break and we look forward to see you all next term
