A Visit From Author Tamsin Janu

Last Friday 2nd August, we were visited by an Australian author, Tamsin Janu. The lucky grades Year 6 and Year 4 were able to see what it was like for an author such as Tamsin to write a book. She gave us some awesome tips on how to improve our writing and told us about what inspired her to write her own five published books.  She explained what it is like to be behind the computer and she gave us some ideas on what we should do if we wanted to be an author in the future. Tamsin walked us through a writing task and explained that if we get stuck we should try and expand on what we already know about the topic and what is happening in the story so far. Tamsin furthered our knowledge about Ghana in West Africa, as that is where her very first book “Figgy in the World” was set. It was an amazing experience for us to see what it is like to be in an author's shoes.

BOOK WEEK Celebrations

Each year across Australia, schools, libraries, booksellers, authors, illustrators and children celebrate Australian children’s literature during Book Week. St Edward's students will be involved in a range of activities which will be held in Week 4 and 5 this term. The theme this year is "Reading is My Super Power".

This year the children are also asked to come dressed up for our Book Week Parade. They are encouraged to come dressed as their favourite story book character or as something related to the theme, “Reading is My Secret Power”. The date for the Parade is Friday 16th August. The Primary Parade will be held at 10.15am and the Infants Parade at 11.30am. Parents are most welcome to attend.

Also for our Book Week Parade, we are asking the students to please bring in the book that their costume is based on eg If you are dressing up as 'Belle' you will need to bring in the book "Beauty and the Beast".  If any students are having trouble finding a specific book or need a book for inspiration, please see the respective Librarians.

We are looking forward to a fun filled week!
