Breaksea House News

End of Term Three

Only a few days to go and we will all be enjoying some time away from the routine of school. We have had another busy half of term with the Kingfisher Fair and Concert, Radio Active and the Sports Carnival.

Jessica Dolan and Stephanie Lamont did us proud in Breaksea House, taking up the mic at the Fair and singing for the crowds. Breaksea House had an enjoyable time with Endeavour House, making rocky road for the Fair and it sure did sell (I was hoping for some leftovers).

The Year Twelve students are 'over' school and can’t wait for it to move to the next stage, while Year Eleven students are gearing up to take on the leadership of the House. I wish you all a pleasant and enjoyable break and see you all back next term.

Year Twelve Reflections

Please enjoy the following reflections from some our Year Twelve girls on their time in boarding.

Haylee Burrell

Boarding has played a crucial role in me becoming the person I am today. Independence is one of the defining features of my personality and boarding helped me develop this at an early age. It gives you a healthy perspective of the world that many others take years to develop after school. As much as boarding has its highs and lows, these skills definitely outweigh the lows.

I have boarded at Great Southern Grammar for five years which has been an incredible experience. Throughout my time at Grammar, I have lived in Endeavour, Michaelmas and Breaksea Houses. My first year in boarding was difficult as we were all just settling into boarding life and getting used to living away from home. However, Year Eight was also one of the best years in boarding as there were only four Year Eight girls; myself, Haylee, Lakotta and Abbey. With only four of us in Endeavour House we all became close and got to know each other very well.

I thank all my Boarding Supervisors as they helped me through the best and worst moments of boarding. They were all extremely supportive and always there to give a hand when needed. Boarding will always be a big part of my life and I am incredibly thankful to have been given this amazing opportunity and to be taking away many friendships and memories.

Abbey Cristinelli

Boarding has been a rollercoaster, but I wouldn’t change one memory that I have made with the most amazing people. Since the day I moved into Endeavour House's smallest room with my new roommate, Haylee, I knew I was in the right place and that my time here was going to be something special. I have met the most loving, caring and down-to-earth people through my experience in boarding and have developed such strong friendships that I never would have if I didn’t board.

I have loved my five years here at GSG and I know I’ll be leaving this place with lifelong friends. I will miss all of the banter and laughter, the tears and the emotions and watching the footy with the girls. I will cherish these beautiful, unforgettable memories that I have made with the girls within boarding, and I hope to see you all again. I would love to thank all of my past Boarding Parents for shaping me into the person I am today, and my amazing parents for giving me the opportunity to attend such a great school.

I have been in boarding for five years now, and have been lucky enough to stay in Flinders Lodge with Mrs Deveson, Michaelmas House with Mrs Orr and Breaksea House with Mrs Ferreira. These five years have flown by and I am surprised to be almost saying goodbye, when it felt like not that long ago that I first arrived.

Boarding has taught me many life skills like washing, keeping a tidy room and being able to cooperate with many different people. I feel that it has made me a better person and some of the friendships formed will hopefully last well into the future. I think we all can agree that there have been tough times in boarding but, together, we all get through those times, like a family.

My favourite memory would have to be in Year Eight with Mrs Deveson where all the Flinders House girls would go on bike rides to the beach, minivan trips to the  Wind Farm or watch scary movies in the living room (which, 'til this day, I’m still scared of!). Being our first year, we cemented our friendships and learnt to enjoy our time away from home, even though it was pretty tough.

I would like to thank all the Supervisors I’ve had over the years and Mr Goggins, Mrs Ferreira, Mr Tompkin and Mrs Franzinelli for supporting me as Boarding Captain this year. I wish all the other Year Twelve boarders the best for the future and hope that we all see each other again soon.

Lakotta Miller

I have enjoyed my time in boarding and I have created strong and good friendships with the girls.
