Michaelmas House News

Sport News

It has been a long, cold term and many students have been involved in one or two Winter sports requiring long hours of training and playing.  Many have gone on to play in the grand finals this past weekend.

Special mentions to:

  • Koby, Marcus and Brock whose hockey team won by a penalty shootout;
  • Brianna and Natalie’s hockey team won by playing extra time;
  • Rhiannon won fairest and best in netball in her division;
  • Ava won the coach’s award in netball;

Congratulations and well done, everyone!

Radio Active

On Friday 30 August we had a house outing to the Radio Active annual concert at the Albany Entertainment Centre.  It is a wonderful production, with Year Eleven and Year Twelve music students from Great Southern Grammar and Albany Senior High School combining with students studying at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA). It was a fabulous showcase of talent and was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Farewell Alexandra

After commencing at GSG in Endeavour House last year and with three terms in Michaelmas House this year, Alex is returning to Perth to live with her mother, Cate, and her brothers.  She will be attending Rossmoyne Senior High School. She will be missed and we wish her well.

Gov Hack

Owen Baxter-Holland and Joe Hawke attended GovHack in the Albany Public Library held over the weekend in early September.

The mission was to create a project with open source data supported by the government.

Congratulations to Owen for winning the Spirit of Govhack Youth Award. He is now automatically nominated for the state award.

Well done, boys.

Footy Tipping

Our 2019 AFL tipping competition has concluded. It was tight towards the end of the season between several tipsters and with the potential for a number of players to finish high in the top order.  For the best part of the season, the top two positions were held by myself and Bethany. The lead between the two of us changed several times, however Bethany’s consistency won out to be the final winner by three and take out the winner’s prize of a $50.00 gift voucher.

Final results for the home and away season:

  • First Place: Bethany Robertson - 121 points
  • Second Place: Mr Colgate - 118 points
  • Third Place: Steven Wiech - 113 points
  • Fourth Place - Tied – Koby Hams and Kaleb Germain - 110 points

Fifteen people competed in this year’s challenge and, of those, 12 won at least one round each.  Special mention to Brent Crowley who won four of the 23 rounds and did well when it came to the weekly prize of a block of chocolate!

Thank you to all who competed this year and I look forward to running the competition in 2020.

On behalf of the Michaelmas staff, we wish you all a wonderful, safe holiday with your child and we look forward to a successful and constructive Term Four.

Bike Rack Construction

For some time our bikes have been left on their sides outside in the alfresco area and it was time to get more organised.  It was decided that with the help of Mr Colgate, we could construct wooden bike racks to keep our bikes in good order.  The first rack was made by Brock and Koby in the Design and Technology workshop and the second one was built by myself, Steven and Owen with the support of Mr Colgate and Brock. The design was simple but effective and it certainly looks tidy outside now.  Mr Colgate was impressed with how we all worked well together on the task.  They will be there now for others to use in the future.  Thank you, Mr Colgate
