Endeavour House News

End of Term Three

I have heard people say that Term Three is the toughest term of the year. If that is the case, we have all thrived or survived in the hardest term. Term Four is a shorter term, so it feels like our first year together in Endeavour House is nearly over.

With the busyness of Winter sport over and the sun starting to shine, we are looking forward to our new Recreation Officer starting and having more opportunities for recreation on the weekends. If you could assist us in encouraging your child to attend recreation activities next term, that helps us a lot. We often hear the girls say they don’t want to go, but when we convince them to go along, they say how much fun it was!

Miss Bermudez has been taking the girls to Breaksea House every Thursday after school for a fun workout session. This session seems to be building in numbers and Miss Bermudez intends to continue the workout next term. This is great fun for everyone; they get to hang out with the Breaksea House girls, get exercise and have fun all in one hour.

I have been encouraging the girls to hang out their washing now that the weather is warming up. I would appreciate you having a talk to your child about this. It is a simple way to save energy and use the sun’s environmentally-sound drying power. I have offered ice-cream as a reward (otherwise known as bribery) for hanging out washing! When my daughters were in boarding, I used to pay them an extra $2.00 pocket money a week if they hung their washing out, rather than using the dryer. You have probably gathered by now that I am passionate about the environment and teaching our students to care for the planet!

Last term, Madi Smart facilitated the Proudie’s Fundraiser with the support of Jasmine Bradshaw. Endeavour House made a fabulous $147.50 for the Foundation. Great job, girls!

A massive amount of sport was played by your girls over Winter. Well done to everyone who played a Winter sport. We even had a few brave girls try a new sport. Congratulations to Xanthe O'Neill and Rosie Page who played in the GSG12 netball grand final, and to Brianna Cunningham, Amber Pearce, Charlie Ritchie and Faith Bin Omar who played in the GSG Year Seven/Eight hockey grand final. Xanthe also received the fairest and best award for her grade for the season from the Albany Netball Association. Amber Pearce , Marisa Roberts, Tyla Climie, Caris Rae and Madi Smart all received awards at the Winter Sport assembly for their teams. Well done, girls.

Enjoy your break with your lovely girls, and look after you.

Kingfisher Fair

The Kingfisher Fair and the preparation for it was loads of fun. We went to Breaksea House and made rocky road with the Senior girls. It is great to spend time in the girl’s Senior house to prepare those of our students who will move to Breaksea House next year. It’s great just to spend time with the older girls as, because we have separate dinner and prep times, we don’t see as much of them as we might like to.

All the girls in Endeavour House took a turn at selling raffle tickets for boarding's stall, the Chocolate Wheel. It was a great way to be a part of the fair. Thank you to everyone who donated prizes for the Chocolate Wheel and for the donations of jars for the rocky road. Our boarding stall wouldn’t have been such a great success without you all.

Jasmine helped me to make a banner for our Chocolate Wheel stall and the year five Doughnut Stall that my son Fletcher’s class ran. It was great way to fill a Friday night in boarding.

Yalari Dinner

Charlie, Narnie, Leonie, Miss Miller and I were lucky enough to go to Perth to the Yalari Dinner in Perth recently. Yalari is the organisation that sponsors Indigenous students and they host an annual fundraising dinner.

Mrs Sue McNeil is our GSG Yalari Student Services Officer (SSO) and she joined us, too. It was a lovely bus trip up the highway and back and we enjoyed the evening and the time spent together.

Farewell, Miss Miller

Miss Alkira Miller has accepted a position at Albany Residential College commencing in Term Four. We say a fond and sad farewell to Alkira who has been a friendly and fun Gap Assistant. The girls held a breakfast on Alkira’s last shift and we went out to Due South for pizza on the last night in boarding for the term. Alkira will be sadly missed. We wish her all the best at the Residential College and we are all hopeful she will return to work in Endeavour House in the future.

Farewell, Mrs Weber

Mrs Meghan Weber who has worked every second Saturday in boarding is a music teacher who has secured work teaching music. We were sad to see Mrs Weber leave and are hopeful that she will return to Endeavour House in the future. To cover the days that Alkira and Meghan have left available, we welcome Mrs Peta Spinks and Miss Jade Sandilands to Endeavour House. Both Jade and Peta have worked in boarding at GSG, we will tell you more about them in the next Boarding Buzz.

Birthdays

Tyla had her birthday just after the last Boarding Buzz, and Chloe’s birthday is on the last day of this term. Happy birthday to both of these lovely girls.
