End of Term Three

Another action-packed term for the Anchorage boys has seen them get out and about, trying new things and making the most of their time in boarding

Sport

On the sporting field, we saw Bailey Peacock awarded best on ground in a grand final winning effort for the Saints. Bailey kicked the last goal of the game, putting them ahead and eventually sealing the win.  We wish him the best as he travels to Perth these holidays with the Storm development squad.

Jack Carlson won fairest and best, while Kaden Patterson and Matthew Lamont won coaches' awards for their respective hockey teams.  Well done, boys.

Last Saturday Mr Percy and I emptied the house and took the boys who were in to ALAC to watch the Year Seven/Eight hockey grand final. Darcy Barrett, Hamish Medway, Kaden Patterson and Zavier van den Brand played their hearts out against a determined Bethel team.  The match went to double overtime and our boys won in a thriller.

Brownlow Medal

The Brownlow Medal count drew lots of interest from the boys, but they made sure they got through their prep first!

Kingfisher Concert

Last Wednesday, the Kingfisher Concert was held at the AEC, with our own Brendan Quick performing after months of before-school practice.  I took 15 boarders (nine from Anchorage House), to the concert where we saw Brendan playing his clarinet in a number of the pieces throughout the evening.  The group was very appreciative and represented us well.  They enjoyed the variety of music on show and a dessert from McDonalds on the way home topped off the evening.

Brendan has also been selected as a crew mate aboard the Leeuwin as it travels from Perth to Busselton.  We hope you have tight sails and bring back plenty of stories.

Senior Boarders

We continued to invite boys from Eclipse House to our Monday night in-house dinners, and this has gone down well with all the boys. Last week, we invited Josh Cameron, Daniel Cosh and William Penny who the Year Nine boys knew from last year. It was like a mini-reunion as they shared stories about the mischief they got up to together. Hamish did a very good job of welcoming the boys to our table for the evening.

Activities

There have been some spontaneous activities this term, which has been great to see.  The slip and slide has had some use, involving boarders from all the Middle School houses.

Mr Tomlinson took Matthew Lamont, Thomas Dolan, Darcy Barrett and Brendan Quick  fishing in the river and came back having caught his first fish, a 30cm Black Bream. Not bad! The legal-size fish have been brought back and cooked by the Year Nine boys, with lots of the boys trying some.

Mr Rice took a bus-load of boys to a skate park to burn off some energy one afternoon. This is one of Jack Carlson, Zavier van den Brand and Alex Norrish’s favourite things to do. Joining them were Jake Cameron, Kaden Patterson and Mitchell Hawley.

Birthdays

This term's birthdays were celebrated with the usual enthusiasm.  Boys come running from everywhere to have piece of Mrs Goggins’ ice cream cake. It’s a nice time for everyone to sit and chat before flying off to get back to what they were doing.  This time we celebrated Kaden, Trenton, Fletcher, Brendan and Bailey's birthdays.

Leader's Report

On Sunday 22 September, we went to our second Jiu Jitsu lesson. We have been taught basic strategies of self-defence as part of the boarding recreation programme. So far this term, everyone has had great fun doing the recreation activities, such as fishing with Mr Tomlinson (at 5.30am or 5.30pm!) and going to the Snake Run. The Kingfisher Fair saw everyone getting around and putting their all in for a great team effort, while some boys performed in and attended the Kingfisher Concert. Well done to all the people that won their finals and bad luck to those that lost. We had GSG Red Seven/Eight winning their final in penalty flicks, and GSG Red Nine/Ten losing 1/4. I hope everyone has a fun, safe and enjoyable holiday with amily and friends.
