SPORTS NEWS   (Angela Mason & Tania Thompson)

HOCKEY FUN ALL ROUND!

Our Year 4 - 6’s were very fortunate in the two weeks before the Circuit Breaker to have one of our mum’s; Edwina Lei-Olesen-Philips, come in to run some fun hockey clinics during Mrs Thompson’s PE lessons.  Students enjoyed being introduced to the basics of stick grip and stance, safety within hockey, dribbling and push-passing. Many thanks goes to Edwina for her time and efforts!

Keen to try Hockey?

If you are keen to get your child involved in a fantastic sport such as hockey, please read the details on the flyer below.  All that’s required is a mouthguard and the rest is taken care of!

As Term 2 comes to a close we are grateful for the Interschool sporting events we managed to participate in around the varying restrictions we have experienced in Melbourne.

We congratulate Marlo (Yr6), Isabel (Yr6) and Gina (Yr6) who will be representing the Beachside District at the Regional Cross Country competition on the 20th of July.  These two students qualified for this next level of competition based on their times from the Holt Cross Country event. We wish both of these runners well!

We take this opportunity to thank the parents who supported and coached the netball and football teams for our Friday Interschool sport competition. We managed to play two out of the four scheduled matches this term and all students represented St Mary’s Primary School  with pride, demonstrating good sportsmanship.

Term 3 brings us the opportunity to compete in the Holt District Hoop Time Competition and the Holt District Athletics Carnival. As preparation for the Holt District Athletics Carnival we run our own St Mary’s “Try Aths” day. This gives all students from Year 3-6 an opportunity to try out a wide range of events in which they may be selected to represent St Mary’s Primary School at the Holt District Athletics Carnival. Watch out for these dates in the Term 3.

If your child still has a St Mary’s football jumper could you please ensure it is washed and returned to school as soon as possible.

Thank you

Angela Mason
