From the Principal

Mrs Cathy Ferrari

At St Mary's we hold the care, safety and wellbeing of children and young people as a central and fundamental responsibility of our school.

We acknowledge the Yaluk-ut Weelam clan of the Boonwurrung – as the Traditional Owners of Port Phillip, the land where St Mary’s is situated, and we pay our respects to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their Elders, both past, present and future.

Dear Families and Carer's,

As I reflect upon this Term, I am immensely proud of our community for all that we have achieved. The children have embraced their new learning spaces and the learning has been explicit and highly engaging across the term. Our move to Remote Learning for the Melbourne Circuit Breaker was highly effective and the positive feedback received from many of you showed how flexible and adaptive learning at St Mary's Primary School has become.  This Wednesday and Thursday Parent/Student Google Meets were held across the school, another example of our new normal.  The students have become able to move on from the disappoints of Netball and Football Lightning Premierships being cancelled but with optimism are looking forward to Hoop Time amongst many other activities next term. Thank you to our families for supporting us with being offsite, QR coding and many other requirements that these times dictate.

Importantly I would like to publicly acknowledge our amazing staff here at St Mary's. Their professionalism, endeavour and ability to get on with it and do it well has enabled the success of our term. In particular I would like to thank Mary and Ruth our Deputies, our Leadership Team: Anna, Paula, Maureen and of course the glue that holds us all together Erica! Father Jerome is also an integral part of our team and supports in so many ways and adds so much to our community, be it with our class masses, speaking with classes on Faith Based Inquiry class Google Meets or bearing gifts of delicious lemon tarts and chocolate cake to keep us going! I feel blessed to be a part of such a warm and vibrant community.

The beginning of next term is our School Review in weeks one and two. We have worked hard in preparing the documentation and evidence for our reviewer. The feedback from the review will guide us for our School Improvement Plan and Annual Action Plans for the next four years.

We warmly welcome baby Jagger, brother to Arlia, Aston and Jett and to Mayumi in Year 1 for the her new baby brother Matteo. We will celebrate and meet them next term at an assembly when restrictions allow.  Congratulations to all of you.

Could I please ask that over the holidays while you are having a well deserved break that school uniforms are looked at, including black school shoes and that we are all in full St Mary's Primary School uniform ready for next term.  Please put Saturday 14th August in your calendars for our new Prom gone Wrong P & F event. It promises to be a fantastic evening.

Wishing everyone a lovely and refreshing break and I look forward to seeing everyone ready to go for an action packed Term 3.

Take care and wishing God's blessings and peace upon each of you.

Mrs Cathy Ferrari
