Sandhurst Girls' Soccer

On Friday the 23rd of April the 9 and 10 intermediate girls soccer team competed in the Sandhurst competition at Epsom soccer grounds. The girls started their day very well winning all 3 games in their pool against Crusoe, Weerona and Victory comfortably.

The girls fought out a tough game in the semi finals against Castlemaine and came through with a win of 2-0. The last game of the day for the girls was the grand final against BSE, a very close game between two great teams with no goals to be seen by halftime. BSE was the better team on the day and scored two quick goals in the second half winning them the competition.

Tuesday the 27th of April the 7 and 8 junior girls soccer team played in the Sandhurst competition against other teams from Bendigo. The junior girls started the day with no goals in sight from either CMC or Girton resulting in a 0-0 draw. The next 3 games in the girls pool the team bounced back from the draw and won comfortably against Crusoe, Weerona and Victory.

Fighting for the grand final spot the girls played Marist and once again won with a solid lead of 3-0.

Girton then met CMC for the second time in the day in the grand final seeing no score by either side for the first half. The game was very tight with the scores still remining at 0-0 but unfortunately with approximately 2 minutes to go CMC sneaked one in the back of the net resulting in a 1-0 loss to Girton.

Congratulations to both teams on coming second and well done to the 7/8/9/10 students who competed in the Sandhurst competition, you all played brilliantly!

Thank you to Ms Speed for organising the day and helping out, without you this day wouldn’t have been possible. Thank you to Mr Furphy and Mrs O’Shea for helping out on the day and assisting Fifi and myself.

Sandhurst Boys' Soccer

Girton enjoyed two successful days on Friday 23rd April and Tuesday 27th April at the annual Sandhurst Junior and Intermediate competitions. Girton entered two teams in which both did extremely well.

On Friday 23rd April, 15 students accompanied by Fifi Ajiboye and Mr Furphy travelled to Epsom to compete in the Sandhurst Intermediate Tournament. The boys did quite well, winning all their group stage matches to advance to the semi-finals. They won this game comfortably against CMC 8-0. Onto the grand finale, Girton was fortunate to play against BSE which ended with a 0-0 draw. This would go down to penalties. With 4 selected penalty takers, all were scored winning Girton the Tournament allowing them to be invited to the Loddon Mallee Regional Finals on Monday 24th May.

On Tuesday 27th April, 17 boys accompanied by Fifi Ajiboye and Mr D travelled to Epsom to compete against other schools in the Sandhurst Junior Tournament. These group of boys showed exemplar skills winning all 3 group stage games, advancing them to the finals. The first final game was played against CMC who unfortunately lost this game. The second final against BSE was also lost, to give a final placing of 3rd out of 9 teams which is incredible.

Both teams did extremely well and are commended for their performances on the separate occasions.
