LIBRARY

One thing I am learning as the students gradually return to school, is that everyone’s experience in isolation has been different. Some students have thrived at home, while others couldn’t wait to return to their familiar routine and friends. Providing appropriate support to students, staff and parents is just one of the challenges that the College faces each day. From a library perspective, we are pleased to offer resources that can be accessed today, tomorrow or next month; from school, at home or where ever you are; once only or over and over again. They are ready for you whenever you need them.

For writers:

Ever thought of keeping a diary, but didn’t want to commit to doing it every day?  The State Library of NSW has set up a digital diary that allows you to add your thoughts, whenever the mood takes you, to those of many other NSW residents.  We are often reminded that we are living through a significant period in history and for those who love to write, this is a wonderful opportunity to add your thoughts to this permanent record, to be held at the SLNSW to document our experiences in perpetuity.  Even better is the chance to read the thoughts and experiences of people of all ages and all walks of life who have already found this resource.  The wisdom in the children’s writing and the acceptance of older adults is reassuring and heartwarming.

For Listeners:

Try this audio diary compiled from the recordings of a HSC student, a parent home schooling 10-year-old twins and a Drama teacher from Fitzroy. If any of these roles resonate with you, and even if they don’t, have a listen to their comments.  It is a rollercoaster ride of doubts, nerves and frustrations, but is affirming, encouraging, reassuring and entertaining. All at the same time! It acknowledges the journey we have all been on over the past few weeks, and manages to validate each of us.

For Readers:

We are pleased to announce that we have just added nearly 300 new titles to our eBook Wellbeing collection and they are all available for you to borrow right now.  They can be browsed by typing ‘Wellbeing’ into the search bar on the library homepage.  Add the login and password when prompted.  (login: College email address and password:  TRACebooks17).  If you download the app you can read or listen on your phone from anywhere. Whether you are looking for a new yoga routine, a guided meditation, advice to help your child with procrastination, anxiety or insomnia, there is a book to suit.  If you can’t find what you are looking for, email library@trac.nsw.edu.au for assistance.

Stay well and I look forward to seeing all students back in the library next week.
