Pen-Pal Program

50 students across Years 9, 10 and 11 who are involved in Outdoor Education are participating in a pen-pal program with local residents at the Mary Potter Nursing Home and Loreto Home of Compassion as well as members of local Anglican church groups.

Each year, students in Outdoor Education sign up to complete the Duke of Edinburgh Award. They are required to complete either 3, 6 or 12 months of community service depending on which year they are in.

Head of Outdoor Education, Kelly Bowen said due to the COVID-19 restrictions, students were unable to physically work in the community so they thought this would be beneficial to the residents and to develop their written communication skills and fulfil their Duke of Edinburgh requirements.
