The Feast of
St Joachim & St Anne
Please enjoy this fantastic video put together by Mrs Palamara and the students of Year 5:
A tribute from the Year 5 Students to their Grandparents:
Grandparents are special people with wisdom and pride.
They are always offering love and kindness and are always there to guide.
They often make you feel so confident and strong.
Their arms are always open, no matter what you did wrong.
They try to help out in every way that they can.
They love all their grandchildren the same whether you're a child, woman, or man.
They are always there to listen and to lend a helping hand.
They show you respect and they try to understand.
They give their love, devotion, and so much more, that's easy to see.
Grandparents, what perfect examples of the kind of person that we should be!
On July 26th, the Church remembered St. Joachim and St. Anne, the parents of the Virgin Mary.
Despite the importance of their role as the maternal grandparents of Jesus, we do not know too much about them.
Regarding Joachim, we know that he was a shepherd from Jerusalem, married to Anne. They did not have any children, and they were a rather elderly couple when, one day, while Joachim was at work in the fields as usual, an angel appeared to announce the birth of a child, and Anna also had the same vision.
So they called their little girl Mary, which means “loved by God,” and then they moved to Nazareth, where they educated Mary, teaching her the law of the Lord. We do not know when Joachim and Anne died, and for many centuries their memory remained in the shadows.
We hope you also enjoy the PowerPoint presentation below, with some very special messages and drawings from our students to their grandparents:
A Prayer for Grandparents
Dear God,
Please bless our grandparents. Thank you for the life they gave my parents and for the life they give to me. For the ways they helped me and made me strong, I give thanks. For the ways they love me no matter what, I rejoice. For the ways they have paved the road that leads me here, I am grateful. Let them grow in wisdom and joy in life. Let them find peace and rest from their work. Let them be healed of every sickness and pain. And let them see with their own eyes the glory of your Son, Jesus, in the love of their children and grandchildren. Bless them always until they come to rest in you. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
