SCHOOL LEADERSHIP POSITIONS
At yesterday’s assembly, the formal student leadership positions were announced and students were presented with certificates. These leaders will join the school captains, Sienna R. and Jacob R. and vice captains, Charlotte N. and Lucas J., who were announced at the final assembly last year.
Congratulations and best wishes for a great year of leadership to:
Sport and Wellbeing Captains
Blue House
Jack K. and Jasmyn B.
Gold House
Khai T. and Mary Jane S.
Green House
Victoria G. and Jamie U.
Red House
Clara A. and Angus A.
Media Team Captains
Phoenix C. and Archie L.
Environmental Team Captains
Aleks G. and Kostadeena Z.
The Arts Team Captains
Josh H. and Claudia B.
Global Citizenship Team Captains
Hanako G. and George Z.
The new team structures aim to offer leadership roles to each group member, as well as to the captains who will lead the teams.
We hope we will be able to give students opportunities for hands-on actions that follow our PYP philosophy.
I would also like to thank all of the students who put up their hand to lead a team. It is great that our students are willing to give these roles a go and although they may not have been successful this time, I hope they will work well in their chosen teams and look towards leading some event or action within their group.
PARENT INFORMATION EVENINGS
Last week, we held parent information evenings and it was wonderful to hear so much positive feedback. We hope that if you were not able to attend, we can send out information via email re some of the slides or notes that were shared on the night.
Thanks to all staff and families for taking the time to make these nights a success.
SCHOOL COUNCIL NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT
As I write this week’s newsletter, we have still not filled the 2 parent positions on school council.
Second nominations for vacancies for the 2018 school council close today at 4:30pm. If there are no nominations, then at the first meeting of the new council on Monday 5 March, we may co-opt 2 parent members. There is also the opportunity to co-opt a community member.
If you are now reconsidering joining the MPS school council, please don’t hesitate to call or see me, as you may be interested in being a co-opted member.
The new school council will meet on Monday 5 March at 7pm for co-option purposes and to elect office bearers. This will be followed by the first formal meeting on 19 March at 7:30pm.
Dates of other school council meetings and sub- committee meetings will be confirmed once the new school council is formed.
PUPIL FREE DAYS 2018
The final meeting of the 2017 School Council was held last night. At the meeting, the dates for the pupil free days were approved as follows:
Monday 23 April - focus on English
Tuesday 24 April - focus on spelling
Monday 5 November - focus to be confirmed
SPEED IN THE SURROUNDING STREETS
Parents are requested to adhere to speed limits as they are driving to and from the school. Hobart Rd is clearly marked with 40 km signs and the same applies for Weeroona Rd. In the service road on Dandenong Rd, the speed limit is 50km and 40km as you are near the school crossing.
Unfortunately, a cyclist was nearly knocked off their bike yesterday and, as you can imagine, this can have terrible consequences.
We also ask that parents remind children who are riding bikes and scooters to school, to limit their speed on surrounding footpaths. We have a number of elderly neighbours who are concerned about being knocked over and we would like to ensure that we are showing them the respect and courtesy they deserve.
WELCOME PICNIC-Thursday 8th March,
6-8pm
This is an opportunity for you to come along and meet other families in your year level and socialise. Bring your own food, drink and picnic rug. As this is a family function, it is essential that a parent or guardian accompany each child attending and are fully responsible for the supervision of their children. Teachers will not be supervising the yard or students. Older siblings are welcome if they are also in the care of parents. Normal school rules apply (no dogs, bikes, scooters etc.).
We also ask that you treat the schoolgrounds like a national park; what you bring in, you take out. This will help with tidying up at the end of the night.
If, in the event of bad weather, the picnic needs to be cancelled, we will put out a flexibuzz note, so please ensure that you have updated your app on your phone.
Chellee Plumb and myself look forward to seeing you.
