Executive Director's Welcome

A reminder of how much we are looking forward to having the students back soon.

This MITS Family Newsletter comes as we as a nation turn our minds to Reconciliation Week.  This year’s Reconciliation Week looks very different to the norm: at MITS, the week is a very special time focussed around the annual Dreamtime at the ‘G game.  We celebrate our partnership with the Richmond Football Club, the great contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to AFL and many other fields, and the strength of our students as they pursue schooling away from home.

While we can’t be together this year – and we all missed the roar of the crowd at the MCG on Saturday night – we have many other reasons to reflect and be grateful this year.

How special it has been to witness the ways in which our students and staff have remained connected across the country during this time of remote learning.  Every day we are seeing our students continue their learning by Google Classrooms, Zoom, WhatsApp and more and retain their connection to their peers, our MITS staff and their community in Melbourne.

We are excited to be preparing for our Victorian students to return to Melbourne on 8 June.  For our Northern Territory students the wait will be a little longer – the start of Term 3.  In the meantime, we want to say a very big “well done!” to all of our students as they continue their learning remotely, and a big “thank you!” to the mums, dad, aunties, uncles, grandparents, teachers and others supporting their learning while they are at home.
