PEER EDUCATION
Peer Education is a level 3 VMG Unit. Amongst other things, students enrolled in this class develop leadership skills. Earlier this year they put these skills into practice when they led the Year 7 Howqua Camp and just last week they led 2018 prospective parents and students on tours of the school.
For the theoretical component of the unit, students have researched a famous leader and presented a research essay. To complement the task they were asked to write a 50-word story about their chosen leader.
Below are some of the stories:
- He is strong and capable. As Dictator he is courageous and generous. “Experience is the teacher of all things”, he would say. He walked confidently into the atrium and felt everyone’s gaze upon him. This never bothered him, for he was renowned for his public speaking. This is Julius Caesar.
Aidan Shannon
- Humorous soul, motivational mindset. She inspires many with her outstanding achievements and her on-going resilience. Challenging herself is what she loves most; achieving things no one thought she ever could. Wears a black mask to cover burns, but realizes that everyone is imperfect. She is admired. This is Turia Pitt.
Ellen Crossley
- Her leadership comes from years of experience in the political field. As she frees her mind and breathes in and out, she readies herself to take the stage and empower women all over the world. She hopes her passion and determination will help spread her message. This is Quentin Bryce.
Bridie Tremellan
- Hardship and pain fell upon him in younger years. Confidence was built. Confidence was broken and torn. People kept believing. Years spent in concrete, locked away. Many fought for freedom and their rights. The mere presence of this man lifted the world. Passion drove him on. This is Nelson Mandala.
Hugo Ingham
- Segregation and discrimination is what she faced. The hardships of living in the 1930s didn’t discourage her and, in fact, built her up to be the powerful civil rights activist that she is well remembered as today. She is both an extraordinary public figure and person. This is Rosa Parks.
