Foundation News
First thing Monday morning this week, Charlotte and Olivia had some wonderful news to share. Charlotte raised $31.85 for the Poor People, by baking and selling cupcakes over the weekend. An incredible effort Charlotte!
Also Olivia advised that she now sleeps in a bunk bed and actually sleeps on the top bunk; and furthermore, her cousin's dog ate their rabbit.

Maths in Foundation
Over the last few weeks children in Foundation have been measuring the length of objects in the class. Children have been using counters, whiteboard markers, streamers, unifix cubes, paddle pop sticks and even superhero discs as units of measure.
After the first lesson, the Foundation children began to work out that measuring the length of an object can take a while and you need to be careful.
We worked out as a class after sharing ideas that you have to measure from the beginning of the object right to the end of the object, place the units in a straight line without overlapping or leaving any gaps and use units that are the same size.
Since working these simple steps out, we have been measuring everything. It is lots of fun!

Year 5
On the 25th of May Year 5 went on an excursion to Sovereign Hill in Ballarat. The reason why we went is that we have been learning about the Australian Gold Rush that started in May 1851.
At Sovereign Hill we were lucky enough to see a gold pour demonstration. While the gold was being melted, it was so hot that it was glowing! We were also able to do gold panning and lots of us found specks of real gold! Some of us got horseshoes engraved and made coloured candles.
Year Five also played a realistic gold rush game with a man named Sir. We were put in groups and given different different nationalities and rules. We also got to watch a Queen Victoria birthday ceremony. We even went down a real mine shaft. Our favourite part of the excursion was shopping and buying lollies.
Thank you to our wonderful parent helpers for accompanying us on this fun learning experience.
