2017 NHS Production: Broadway Beats
With a new teacher (Mr Shane Woon) in the directing chair, this year’s musical was sure to leave its mark in Nossal’s performance legacy.
Unlike previous years where the night was dedicated to a single musical; this year, the audiences were treated to many of Broadway’s most famous musicals in a unique musical extravaganza produced by Mr. Woon and the creative team (including myself and Drama Captain, Will Orrell).
The production featured many notable musicals including The Lion King, Les Miserables, RENT, Chicago, Hairspray and Wicked to name a few. The performances were well received by the audiences with many laughs heard, tears shed, and a lot of childhood nostalgia (especially with the Disney numbers).
Getting to spend my final year immersing myself in the musical world (in the director’s chair and working alongside such a driven cast and team) will be a memory I will cherish for years to come.
Many thanks to Mr Butler for our set design (and curtains), Ms Desaulniers for your backstage help, Ms Metcalfe for helping in the band and Mr Page for giving us this opportunity. And of course, this musical would not be possible without Mr Woon; thank-you for being so committed to this production and creating something that is so special to our drama club this year.
This is just the beginning of an amazing new journey for the drama club.

2017 Arts/Tech Showcase
Broadway Beats was a great highlight of a revamped Arts Technology Showcase held at the end of last term. In a new innovation, the previously known Gala added a new electronic edge with the introduction of our own Nossal version of White Night. which saw images and video of student activities across the Learning Domain projected onto the Meath Auditorium Foyer walls. Guests to the Showcase were treated to outstanding visuals of student Photography, Art and Visual Communication and Design, a display of some of the work done in Systems Technology (Robotics) and served refreshments prepared by the talented Food Technology students. A feature of the exhibition was recognition of the four Nossal students' work that was selected for inclusion in the Top Designs Exhibition held earlier in the year at the Melbourne Museum.
The Nossal 2017 Arts/Tech Showcase was made possible with the very generous support of three companies.
Optim Audio Visual are an audio visual solution company based in Melbourne. Optim has been operating for over 10 years and has grown to become one of Australia’s leading Audio Visual installers, suppliers and designers. Our services range completes our turn-key solution including lighting, vision, audio and theming. Optim supplied the Showcase with technical equipment for the presentation of Broadway Beats as well as donated trussing to allow us to operate our White Night. Thank you to Simon and Trevor for their outstanding products, support and service.
Officemax Education helped us source the high level data projectors that were used to create the visual displays on the foyer walls. Thank you to Andrew and Andrew and the team at Officemax for their support. Officemax Education focus is directly with schools and engage with parents when a school nominates the company as its booklist provider. Officemax provides schools with resources, such as, digital/print content in booklists, STEAM, IT devices, office furniture, medical supplies, promotions and stationary products.
Our final sponsor on of the showcase was Hitachi Australia Pty Ltd. Hitachi donated 3 high resolution data projectors for use at the Showcase and it was these machines that brought visual displays of our White Night to reality. Hitachi are committed to providing education with great resources and have provided us with some links which readers may find interesting including one that provides information about how the company is recycling up to 97% of projectors and therefore saving on landfill.

The Arts /Technology Learning Domain are very grateful for the encouragement and support it received from the sponsors and the audience who attended both the exhibition and the performance of Broadway Beats. This was an outstanding celebration of the work done by the students and staff of these subjects.
