Science & Engineering Day

On Thursday 2 March a group of Year 9 and 10 Kildare students participated in the Science and Engineering Challenge at Mater Dei with 7 other schools from the Riverina. Teams worked together to complete challenges incorporating many skills. In one of the challenges, we received straws, string, tape, wooden sticks and plasticine to create a functional moving hand. This hand was later tested for its capability to perform manual tasks such as lifting objects.
At the end of the day the one to watch was the bridge building. Some teams spent all day designing and constructing a bridge from paddle pop sticks. The strength and structure of the bridges were tested with a weight bearing cart crossing over. 250 students had a great opportunity to enjoy a practical taste of science and engineering skills.
