Sustainability Calendar:

Recycling:

Introducing Colgate Community Garden - Oral Recycling Competition!!!  Collection box is in the front office.

DON’T FORGET TO VOTE FOR OUR SCHOOL!! CLICK HERE.

Recycling that is happening in our classrooms:

  1. Paper – each classroom and office has a paper bin that is emptied weekly into our paper skip.  We see a full skip at the end of each week.  Well done and keep up the great work!!
  2. Compost – Grade 3’s have done a wonderful job over the last few years to provide all classrooms with a food scraps container that they diligently collect and deliver to our chooks and worms.  Again, this is a terrific system that is working well!
  3. Curb side recycling – each classroom is designing a way to collect curbside recycling items and delivering them to the yellow recycling bins around the school
  4. Soft Plastics– each classroom is designing a way to collect soft plastics and delivering them to the maroon recycling bin.  We suspect that this contributes to a big portion of our landfill.  If any parent is interested in collecting these plastics to deliver to Coles/Woolworths, please get in touch with Claire Morris.

Bin Competition:

CLOSING THIS FRIDAY!!   Click here to view more information and download the entry form.

Ideas for home:

  • Collect bottle caps (milk bottle style) and drop them off to the Buninyong Book Shop.  They are collecting for Envision who will help turn them into prosthetic limbs.
  • Collect bread tags and drop them off to the Buninyong Book Shop.  They are collecting them Breadtags for Wheelchairs.
  • Collect your oral waste and drop it into the box near the front office as part of the Colgate Community Garden program to recycle this waste and give the school a chance to win some great prizes.  Don’t forget to vote for our school and help us earn extra points.

Weekly Tip:

Take a look at what is in your lunchbox and see if you can find a way to reduce the amount of rubbish that is in there.  For instance, can you use a tupperware container instead of the smaller chip packet?  Can you use some material (like bees wax wraps) to wrap your sandwich instead of glad wrap?  Speak to an adult at home to help you work our better rubbish free alternatives.
