Minimum period of exclusion from primary schools and children’s services for infectious diseases cases and contacts

As we begin to progress towards the time of the year where more and more infectious diseases can start to come into school, we ask all families to read the attached exclusion table. Through working together and ensuring students that are ill do not attend school during the exclusion period, we can hopefully reduce the spread of such diseases and ensure our students and staff are not put at risk of coming into contact with a disease.

A key message from this table is around Diarrhoeal illness (often involved in gastroenteritis) whereby students must not attend school until there has been no vomiting or loose bowel motion for a period of 24 hours. For most cases, this means that students with such symptoms will be away for a minimum of 2 days. In order to support this, our office staff will be recording students who exit the school for Diarrhoeal-type symptoms and will be reminding families of the importance of the child not returning until they are in accordance with the attached exclusion table.

We thank everyone in advance for supporting this approach and ensuring all students have illnesses managed effectively to reduce unnecessary spread.
