Grade Four

Grade 4 Report

Students had an outstanding day at Athletics this week and we were lucky enough to be blessed with sunshine and only a little speckling of rain. All students did a fantastic job and should be proud of the effort that they put in on the day.

In Literacy, we are reading a variety of texts that relate to our Integrated unit of Social Justice. Students will be learning to plan and create interesting stories using a variety of new strategies and tools. We will be researching different disabilities and learning how to use our research to create informed narratives.

In Numeracy, students began the term by learning about area, perimeter, symmetry, volume and 3D shapes. We are currently working on fractions, decimals, percentages and money. Students have collected their own data to use as they investigate how these concepts are linked together. As the term progresses, we will be working on time, patterns and algebra.

This term, our Integrated theme encourages students to look at life through the perspective of other people and focuses on a variety of disabilities and ways to create social justice. We have learned about a young man with cerebral palsy named Riley who gets to realise his dream of driving a car. This lead to discussions about the ways that technology can benefit people’s lives. We are learning to listen with understanding and empathy and will be conducting our own independent inquiry as we research and report on an organisation or aide that assists someone with a disability.
