1st XVIII Football - Cable Division Schoolboys Grand Final - Mazenod 3.6 def by Churchlands 3.7

On behalf of the staff of Mazenod, I would like to thank all the young men that took the field on Wednesday, and throughout the season. You gave everything you had and left nothing on the field. It just wasn’t to be this time. You played like giants. You should be as proud of yourselves as we are of you. A great representation of what Mazenod stands for.

Thank you to Mr Logan, Mr Akmens, Mr Hemley, Mr Mason and Mr Gardner for their help with the team in the preseason and throughout the competition. Thank you also to the amazing Mazenod parents and staff that supported and came along each week, and to the Old Boys and other members of the Mazenod community for coming to watch and cheer on the boys in the Grand Final. It was an inspiration to the players.

To the Year 10 and 11 players who will remain at Mazenod next year, use this result as inspiration for next year.

To the Year 12s, thank you for your outstanding contributions to Mazenod football and good luck with your football futures. It has been a privilege to be your coach and an absolute pleasure to watch you play. You are an amazing group of young men.

Although the boys played a good game they went down to Churchlands in the QF 51-44. Well done to coach Ross Websdale and Matt Haigh (Old Boy) for their fantastic work. It was a great effort by all.

On Wednesday 2 July, the Year 7 ACC Football team played in the finals of the Year 7 ACC Football Competition at Hamer Park. After having qualified for the finals, the previous week by winning their division as undefeated, the team were confident of success in the finals. The finals day consisted of some strong football schools including Sacred Heart, CBC Fremantle, Emmanuel and Mandurah Catholic, all playing in a round robin format. The boys played well but unfortunately were beaten in the final game by Mandurah Catholic in a close contest. Well done to all the students involved, Mr Floyd and Mr Richards–Scully for coaching and supporting the team. Also, a big thank you to the parents who came to all the games and supported the team!
