CHPS School Captains 2019

SCHOOL CAPTIANS 2019

Athan Siapikoudis 6GB

I’m proud and excited to have been selected as a school captain. I believe a good leader is somebody who brings out the best in others by encouraging and supporting them and valuing their ideas, concerns and opinions.

You all have unique personalities and talents and as school captain I want to get as many people as possible involved in doing what they love, such as joining action teams.

I value each and every one of your opinions and I would love to hear your concerns and ideas.  You can chat to me in the yard or contact me at: SIA0001@cliftonhillps.vic.edu.au

You are a  fantastic community –– and it is such an honour and privilege to represent you and I am looking forward to getting to know more of you !

Siobhan Dockray 6ES

I am so excited to be representing you this year. After spending a lot of time working on my speech I was ecstatic when my name was called for school captain! Though I love public speaking I was shaking like a leaf before it was my turn to speak.

Some fun facts about me!

  • I was born in LA and I have lived and gone to school in Berlin and Sweden.
  • I love all food cuisines and eat them depending on my mood but mexican and thai are some of my favourites.
  • I love going to marches and protests and I enjoy making arty signs and posters too.

“Gratitude, empathy and compassion”.

These are the qualities of a leader who has been in the news a lot lately. Her name is Jacinta Arden. Who is she? The New Zealand Prime Minister, leader of their Labour Party and the youngest female prime minister. To me she is an inspiration and an example of good leader…

I really value thinking about the bigger picture and equality. As a school I would like us to be engaging in the community and learning from each other. I would also like to see CHPS having an option for everyone, whether it be lunchtime clubs, leadership programs or even creative ways to learn and express ideas in class. As a school leader I think of myself as a representative of students ideas and someone friendly that everyone (especially the younger years) feels comfortable to share their ideas with and not feel intimidated doing so. If the school captains were the only ones making change in the school I’d feel I had not done my job as a school captain!

You can email me at doc0001@cliftonhillps.vic.edu.au or talk to me at snack or lunch. My classroom is 6ES in the organ factory near the science room. Thanks and Ciao!!!!

Lucy Dekker 6RW

Hi! I’m Lucy, and I’m one of your school captains for 2019. I received the news that I was one of C.H.P.S’s 2019 School Captains while I was in London, at which time I was thinking about what would actually happen if I was voted in. Ever since I even heard that our school was going to convert from Junior School Council to having four school captains and action teams, I was immediately interested. I have always aspired to do something great, something that will be remembered even by people who I don’t personally know, and now I have that chance, I am not going to waste it.

For all my primary school years I have tried to be kind. Everyone does little things that make someone’s day, and I have had so many encouraging messages throughout my life, but unfortunately, also some negative comments. I have been criticised for speaking about my passion for women’s rights and have been put down, but I have it so much better than some other children my age. Girls, boys, adults, people, all suffering. There are ways to make this stop, and ever since I found out that I was a school captain, I vowed to myself to at least attempt to change our community for the better.

We may all say and believe that we understand kindness, but only those who actually act with kindness are those who truly understand and care. I am so lucky to have beautiful people in my life who support me, and not everyone has that. All of us who have the opportunity and privilege to have a quality education, we have to make the most of it and help others make the most of it too, by staying kind, empathetic, grateful, inclusive and using creative and critical thinking in our everyday lives.

Jaimie Merret 6RW

Hiyah friends, My name is Jaimie and I am one of your new school captains. I was literally jumping out of my chair when I found out that I was going to have the privilege of working with you wonderful, amazing, kind people.

At this school, I have cherished and highly valued the kindness everyone has showed to not just me, not just the community, but the entire school environment for so long. I believe that kindness is leadership. I show leadership everyday by, just doing small things, yet I am proud of the kindness I have showed over the years. Leadership is shown by caring about everyone in this school, from your best friend to someone you’ve never talked to before. We are all capable of achieving these beautiful acts.

For ages I have absolutely adored this experience, the experience of my schooling here. Ever since my education commenced here, as a teeny weeny grade one, I have had such supportive teachers, classmates, and friends that are always surrounding me and making me happy. And, some of you gorgeous people have come to talk to me on a terrible day, and shared a smiled. That is one of the most wonderful gifts, which has the power to brighten someone’s day.

So therefore, even though some of you may know me as that cray cray kid who talks way too much, now consider me as your friend. If you have any questions, worries, ideas, or just want to chit chat, E-mail me at MER0004@cliftonhillps.vic.edu.au, or, just come and wait outside 6RW at snack or lunch. I am always happy for a bit of friendly conversation.

Now preppies, I  have a challenge for you. If you see someone that looks like they are having a bad day, share a smile with them. It will always help. Thank you very much.
